7 of the best laptops for video editing right now

TwitterFacebook

Video editing is often a tedious and intricate process that requires incredible attention to detail, long hours spent in front of editing software, and the ability to make a bunch of different factors (i.e. sound, graphics, film) line up and come together to achieve a great final product (aka, your masterpiece.)

Similarly, finding the best laptop to assist in your *work of sheer genius* also involves a lot of different components coming together into one kick-ass video editing machine.

The reality is: a laptop fit for video editing is going to require some serious specs.

Generally, a great video editing laptop will have a powerful processor (CPU) and graphics card (GPU), an impressive display, and a hell of a lot of memory and storage. In an ideal world, this laptop would also offer multiple different input/output options and be relatively lightweight, because if you happen to also be shooting the video you’ll edit, the last thing you want to do is add weight to your already-heavy camera equipment bag(s). Lastly, in this ideal world, these laptops would be cheap. Spoiler alert: this is the real world and these things aren’t cheap. However, some are definitely more affordable than others — so if you’re on a budget, price is obviously another huge factor to consider.  Read more…

Apple’s new Mac Pro isn’t coming until 2019, but that’s probably for the best

TwitterFacebook

In an unusual admission last year, Apple announced work had begun on a new Mac Pro. A do-over, if you will, after it designed itself into a corner with the trash can-looking cylindrical computer.

Apple never promised a new Mac Pro for 2018 — SVP of worldwide marketing Phil Schiller only said it would “take longer than this year [2017] to do — and now we know he wasn’t kidding: The new Mac isn’t coming until 2019.

Yeah, it’s a bummer we’ll all have to wait that long, but it should mean Apple will have more time to design a machine that won’t turn off professionals.

IBM has created a computer smaller than a grain of salt

TwitterFacebook

If there’s one downside to powerful computers, it’s that they’re too damn big.

Luckily, that’s about to change. At least, if IBM has anything to say about it.

March 19 is the first day of IBM Think 2018, the company’s flagship conference, where the company will unveil what it claims is the world’s smallest computer. They’re not kidding: It’s literally smaller than a grain of salt.

But don’t let the size fool you: This sucker has the computing power of the x86 chip from 1990. Okay, so that’s not great compared to what we have today, but cut it some slack — you need a microscope to see it.  Read more…

The most important thing about Apple’s new Macs might be something you can’t see

TwitterFacebook

Apple’s reportedly working on three new Macs — updated laptops and a desktop (the exact models weren’t specified) — for launch this year, according to Bloomberg.

New Macs shouldn’t surprise anyone. All of Apple’s Macs are due for an update and the company already told us a new Mac Pro will arrive by the end of the year.

Righting misfires like the Touch Bar and flat keyboard on the MacBook Pro are two easy wins, but the most exciting new feature for this year’s Macs could be something people will never see at all: a co-processor.

Dude found the creepiest image imaginable hidden in his desktop wallpaper

TwitterFacebook

Some people take their computer wallpapers very seriously.

The background image should be selected with the utmost importance but you never knows if you might find a hidden picture in that background photo.

TheFishPenetrator uploaded a video to Youtube on Wednesday, when he thought he was losing his mind after thinking he saw as bizarre image hidden within his computer wallpaper.

When you move closer to the space background a face becomes more visible from a certain angle.

In the video description he wrote, “My friend gave me his wallpaper dump, I thought this was a cool one and little did I know I found the reason why I can’t sleep lol.” Read more…
