Hey Siri, this rapper sounds just like you

TwitterFacebook

Doing a decent impression of Siri is a high-flying goal for some, but a Maryland rapper has nailed it.

Baltimore-based artist and producer Caz, a.k.a. HAZMATCAZ, has mastered the voice of Apple’s digital smart assistant, demonstrated in two viral clips posted to Twitter on Saturday.

First spotted by PAPER, the clip was posted by Twitter user @Erinie_DaBest, and shows Caz giving her best Siri rendition:

After reportedly receiving comments suggesting the video was fake or lip-synced, Caz responded to critics on Twitter.

“For everyone saying that i’m faking the siri you hear in the background is me being previously recorded on someone else’s phone and my friend asked me to do it again,” she tweeted. “I’ve always has a good speaking voice it just came naturally to me one day and i’ve been doing it ever since.” Read more…

Get ready for an explosion of Alexa-powered headphones

Get ready for the Alexa headphone explosion.

Up till now, there haven’t been too many headphones that integrate Amazon Alexa. There are certainly some you can buy — from high-end noise-canceling cans that fit over the ears to true-wireless models — but even when Alexa is present, its abilities are limited to a subset of what it can do on an Echo smart speaker.

That’s about to change in a big wayQualcomm has developed an audio chipset specifically for headphones to integrate digital assistants like Alexa, and a reference design that incorporates the technology: a neckband-style pair of headphones lets you call up Amazon’s digital assistant at the touch of a button. Amazon’s Alexa will soon do your bidding through your car infotainment console

TwitterFacebook

Amazon doesn’t just want to compete with Google and Apple in your home. It’s coming for your car, too. Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant will soon be “Hey Alexa” ready through the car infotainment system — a territory Apple CarPlay and Android Auto have inhabited for years.

On Thursday, Amazon released a developer kit to integrate Alexa’s AI skills into car infotainment systems. Soon you could ask Alexa for directions, to make calls, stream songs, search for nearby restaurants or hotels — just like you do with devices, like the Echo, at home. Except you don’t need to plug your phone into your car, the car is the voice assistant.  Read more…

Siri is telling people it’s getting a major update at WWDC

TwitterFacebook

Siri’s getting a makeover — at least that’s what the Apple digital assistant strongly hinted at with its responses about the upcoming Apple developer conference.

Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference, or WWDC, is next month and if you ask the voice assistant (I refuse to call an AI a gendered pronoun) what to expect, it hints at a software update and new default voice — and what sounds like a new HomePod speakerThe ApplePost appears to have first discovered Siri giving away conference information when asked.
