Dolly Parton just absolutely smashed a ‘Jolene’ version of the distracted boyfriend meme

TwitterFacebook

Dolly Parton just weighed in on the distracted boyfriend meme and, well, she absolutely smashed it.

The singer and all-round legend tweeted a meme that pretty much any Dolly fan will instantly understand.

Those who’ve ever listened to the lyrics of the 1973 song “Jolene” will know the song tells the story of a woman whose partner has feelings for another woman, namely Jolene.

Well, now the lyrics of this timeless song have been immortalised in meme form by none other than Dolly herself.

At San Diego Comic Con this weekend, the meme got a fresh lease of life thank to a genius Star Wars twist.

The photo was posted to r/pics on Monday by user i124nk8 under the header “Charlie Chaplin: inventor of memes.” (It had been circulating on Twitter, courtesy of @peeto_g, since the day before.)

Now, against my better judgment, I am considering replacing the original Distracted Boyfriend with the Charlie Chaplin version from now on. For one thing, everyone’s outfits are much better. For another, I haven’t seen the latter image every day for the past 10 months. Plus, vintage! Read more…

You might have thought you’d heard the end of that whole “distracted boyfriend” meme, but sadly you’d be wrong.

Turns out the characters in the photo actually have a complete backstory.

On Monday, digital marketer Andrew Abernathy stumbled across the original image while browsing for stock photos.
