Merriam-Webster tweeted about doggos, so people sent a flood of personal pooch photos back

Dogs are good.

Merriam-Webster got plenty of them when they tweeted the word “doggos,” which is one of the words the dictionary is watching — but hasn’t yet made the criteria for entry.

The classical definition of doggo originates from late-19th century slang. It means to be in hiding, as to “lie doggo,” as per a Time article from 1886 the dictionary cited in its blog post.

However, the dictionary acknowledged the word’s meteoric rise over the past year or so, which is chiefly the internet’s doing.

While campaigning for president, Donald Trump took plenty of pleasure in taking potshots at world power China (even as he’s walked back some of those statements a little).

China, in turn, has responded by portraying Trump as giant animals.

A mall in the city of Taiyuan in China’s Shanxi province gave the world this giant Trump-like dog because how else could you really expect to end a year as surreal as this one. Internet rallies behind a dog named Jack that’s banned from the state of Maryland

A good dog (they’re all good dogs) named Jack is getting waves of support after a tweet about his criminal past blew up on Tuesday.

Twitter user @historiancole shared a few screenshots of Jack’s adoption listing on the Deleware Valley Siberian Husky Recuse. In the post, it says that Jack is completely banned from living in the state of Maryland.

“Unfortunately, due to some mischief that Jack got into when he was younger, he cannot legally be adopted or reside in the state of Maryland,” the page reads.  Read more…
