All the ‘Game of Thrones’ theories and speculations in ‘Fire and Blood’

George R. R. Martin’s new book, Fire and Blood, recounts the 300 years of Targaryen history before the events of Game of Thrones. But it also has plenty of potential fodder for theories directly tied to the time period we know and love on the show.

But they’re also very well hidden.

“There are a few that are definitely important, but I’m not going to flag them,” Martin told EW in regards to whether the book contained hints. “Readers will have to find them and puzzle out whether they’re hints or red herrings.”

As a in-universe textbook by an Archmaester named Gyldayn, we can’t take everything stated in Fire and Blood as totally accurate. He’s writing down history that happened centuries before he was alive, and a lot of accurate information has been lost to time. Read more…

George RR Martin hints there may be some Westeros ‘erotica’ in his new book

TwitterFacebook

If you were wondering what exactly is contained within George RR Martin’s new 736-page epic Westeros history Fire and Blood, we now have a few more clues.

We already knew there were going to be dragons, and potentially some hints for Game of Thrones fans — but now we know one more thing Martin has managed to sneak in all those pages: a bit of erotica.

Yep: during an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the author confirmed as much.

“We do have, in Fire and Blood — you know it’s written by an Archmaester going back to primary sources — and there’s one particular incident where he has to, somewhat reluctantly, consult a book called ‘A Caution for Young Girls’ — which is basically erotica from Westeros,” explains Martin. If you’re a Game of Thrones fan but you haven’t got round to ordering George RR Martin’s epic new Targaryen history Fire and Blood yet, you’re probably consoling yourself with the thought that it can’t really contain that many Ice and Fire hints — it’s set 300 years before Martin’s main Westeros series kicks off, right?

Well, not so fast. The book may predate Daenerys & Co. by several centuries, but it still takes place in the same universe. And judging from a recent interview Martin took part in with Entertainment Weekly, the book does contain hints.

Two of the potential ‘Game of Thrones’ prequels are about the Targaryens

TwitterFacebook

George RR Martin may not be writing any of the Game of Thrones prequel series, but he certainly has insider knowledge about the stories they’ll tell.

And he just spilled the beans on two of them.

While Martin had hinted on his blog that one of the not-yet-greenlit series has something to do with the Targaryens, he revealed in an interview with The Guardian that “at least two of them are solidly based on material in Fire and Blood. Those haven’t been greenlit yet.”

Fire and Blood is a canon history of the Targaryen conquest, which is what happened when Daenerys and Jon’s great-great-super-great grandparents rained, well…fire and blood on the continent of Westeros. Read more…

While we want for winter to be over, both for Season 8 of the HBO hit (out in 2019) and the next installment of the books, Winds of Winter (out never), why not some Fire and Blood?

It isn’t much, but we’re ready to Dracarys all over this unnecessary yet still intriguing chapter in the Game of Thrones universe.

“300 years before A Game of Thrones, dragons ruled Westeros,” the preview states. It also provides details on exactly what the Targaryen history book will cover, namely the reign of their house, from the original Aegon the Conqueror to Aegon III. Read more…
