Foxconn, the company that makes the iPhone, has acquired Belkin for $866 million

Taiwanese giant Foxconn, best known to the western world as the company that manufactures the iPhone for Apple, has bought accessory maker Belkin, as well as associated brands Wemo, Linksys and Phyn, for $866 million in cash, the companies announced Monday. 

California’s Belkin is best known for its array of phone and PC accessories; Linksys manufactures networking equipment; Wemo makes home automation equipment, and Phyn sells a product that notifies you of water leaks in the house. 

“Integrating Belkin’s best-in-class capabilities and solutions into FIT (Foxconn Interconnect Technology Limited, a subsidiary of Foxconn), we expect to enrich our portfolio of premium consumer products and accelerate our penetration into the smart home,” Sidney Lu, the CEO of FIT said in a statement.  Read more…

After iPhone X pre-orders began in October, Apple estimated that units would take five to six weeks to ship. Such pessimistic prospects are now a thing of the past: iPhone X orders will now ship in two to four business days. 

The new estimate applies to AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, and unlocked iPhone X models sold in the U.S, Australia, Germany, and the U.K. Models from T-Mobile, and other countries where iPhones are sold, should ship within six business days. Self-driving cars might get their own lane on Interstate 94

Self-driving vehicles may get their very own lanes along a stretch of the bustling Interstate 94 in Wisconsin.

Wisconsin transportation officials are considering the futuristic option because the electronics manufacturing giant Foxconn — whose Chinese factory produces up to half a million iPhones a day — confirmed in October that it will build a 20 million square-foot flat-screen factory in Racine County, Wisconsin. This will inevitably bring a ton of commerce-related traffic to the region, so Foxconn asked state officials to consider a self-driving vehicle lane to more efficiently move things to and from the factory.  Read more…
