FX conjures up anthology series described as feminist ‘Black Mirror’

What’s that? The Handmaid’s Tale isn’t dark enough for you?

After negotiating through what Deadline is calling a “competitive situation,” FX has won the rights to adapt Carmen Maria Machado’s Her Body and Other Parties into a televised anthology series. 

And that’s great news for people seeking out their next bout of nightmares.

The feminist short story collection has been described by its publishing house Gray Wolf Press as a collection of “narratives that map the realities of women’s lives and the violence visited upon their bodies.” 

From horrific re-imaginings of Law & Order: SVU to the disturbing observations of a woman who can hear porn actors’ thoughts, Machado’s tellings have gained a reputation for their unnerving depictions of femininity and fairy tales.  Read more…

Louis C.K. dropped by FX, manager and publicist amid sexual misconduct revelations

FX Networks and FX Productions are cutting ties with Louis C.K. following allegations of sexual misconduct leveled against the comedian by five women in a New York Times report — allegations that C.K. confirmed in a statement Friday.

C.K. will “no longer serve as an executive producer or receive compensation on any of the four shows we were producing with him,” FXN and FXP said in a statement. Those shows are Pamela Adlon’s Better Things, for which C.K. co-wrote next week’s Season 2 finale; Zach Galifianakis’ Baskets; Tig Notaro’s One Mississippi (which airs on Amazon); and TBS’ upcoming animated comedy The Cops, which has suspended production in the wake of the news, per the Hollywood Reporter. HBO cuts Louis C.K. from charity telecast and on-demand services in wake of harassment allegations

HBO is severing ties with Louis C.K. following a New York Times report that the comedian sexually harassed five women, with allegations spanning back to the late ’90s. 

The premium cable network has confirmed that it has cut C.K. from its Night of Too Many Stars charity telecast, an annual event which raises funds for autism services. HBO also announced that it will be pulling the comedian’s stand-up specials and previous TV series — including Lucky Louie — from its on-demand platforms.

“Louis C.K. will no longer be participating in the Night of Too Many Stars: America Unites for Autism Programs, which will be presented live on HBO on November 18,” an HBO spokesperson said, per Variety. “In addition, HBO is removing Louis C.K.’s past projects from its On Demand services.” Read more…
