Gary Oldman’s son decries ‘clickbait’ stories about father’s 2001 domestic abuse allegation

Gary Oldman scored his first Academy Award on Sunday. Now, his son has some choice words for anyone attacking the Best Actor winner’s character.

Some background is in order. The senior Oldman has faced backlash during the 2017/2018 awards season over an alleged domestic abuse incident stemming back to 2001. The allegation was brought to bear by ex-wife Donya Fiorentino, with whom Oldman had two children.

The details of the case are quite involved, though it should be noted that Oldman never faced any criminal charges and, when he and Fiorentino divorced, he was granted full custody of their two children. Fiorentino, for her part, reminded the world as recently as Monday that she sees her ex-husband as an “abuser.” Read more…

Salma Hayek threw some epic shade at men during her BAFTAs speech

Salma Hayek presented the award for Best Actor at the BAFTAs on Sunday night — and she really wasn’t messing around.

Dressed in black in support of the Time’s Up movement like many of the actresses in attendance, Hayek kept her pre-award speech short — but she managed to get a couple of memorable lines in.

Here’s the first one:

“In this very important and historical year for women,” said Hayek, “I am here on this legendary stage to celebrate… men.”

Then, after the nominees had been announced, Hayek opened the golden envelope. And proceeded to announce the winner as “Frances McDormand”. Read more…
