Everything’s voice-activated these days — even the kitchen sink.
The Delta Faucet Company announced Friday it’s developing faucets that respond to voice commands. Along with turning off and on, they’ll be able to measure amounts of water for cooking, and warm water, too.
It’s all possible thanks to Wi-Fi and Amazon Alexa.
Mike Sale, Delta Faucet’s senior research and design product development manager, said in a call this week that the sink designers took a page from early voice-enabled lights and HVAC systems that could turn on with a simple command. Read more…

Remember BlueBorne, the vulnerability that allowed hackers to infiltrate an estimated 5 billion gadgets using only a Bluetooth connection?
Today, Armis Security announced that an estimated 20 million Amazon Echo and Google Home devices were vulnerable to attacks via the BlueBorne exploit. The disclosure was coordinated with Google and Amazon, and both companies have already released patches to fix the issue on their respective devices.
The report highlights a growing concern over the security of smart home devices, whose operating systems are often updated less frequently than desktop computers and cell phones, and can be left vulnerable to hackers. Read more…

Welp. Here’s another scenario to add to your list of terrifying ways a remote-controlled vibrator can turn against you.
In a post Wednesday, Redditor tydoctor detailed a deeply disturbing incident related to the Lovense remote-controlled vibrator app:
“I was going through my phone media to prepare it for a factory reset and came across a .3gp file named “tempSoundPlay.3gp” in the folder for the App. The file was a FULL audio recording 6 minutes long of the last time I had used the app to control my SO’s remote control vibrator (We used it at a bar while playing pool).”
The app, which can be used to control several sex toys made by Lovense, does apparently ask for permission to access the phone’s mic and camera, but it’s only supposed to be used for the in-app chat — so users can send voice commands to the person controlling the remote from afar. Read more…
