TwitterFacebook

The second day of CES 2019 came and went, leaving plenty of noteworthy tech news we’re still talking about.

Unique TVs are stealing the show. Voice assistants invade your automobiles. Google goes Disney. Here’s what you need to know from CES Day 2.

Hey Google!

Day 2 of CES was Google day. The search giant announced a number of cool upgrades involving its voice-activated Google Assistant.

But, first, we need to talk about the company’s weird Google Assistant CES ride. Yes, a literal ride. At CES, Google went … Disney.

The tech company turned a lot outside the Las Vegas Convention Center into a theme park with an “It’s a Small World”-esque attraction. CES visitors are seated in a car and follow a track that takes them through different scenes, complete with animatronic characters and theme music. Read more…

The Good

Bright colors balanced with HDR • Suite of smart features • Can be integrated into smart home • Built-in sound bar

The Bad

Limited choice of size

The Bottom Line

If you’re looking for the best of the best in the realm of 4K TVs, it’s hard to beat the Sony A9F.

1. Sony A9F

OLEDs offer some of the best pictures available, and the Sony A9F might be the best of them all.

  • Available sizes:
    55-inches, 65-inches
  • Processor:
    X1 Ultimate
  • Smart U.I.:
    Android TV
  • Display:
    Triluminos color with HDR 10
While still relatively young, OLED TVs easily occupy the top spot over LED TVs. But not all OLEDs are created equal and there are only a handful that stand head-and-shoulders above the rest. The Sony A9F is near the top.
The A9F is the latest model in Sony’s line of OLED TVs and is the culmination of previous designs up to this point. To start, the OLED panels at the heart of the TV make up the baseline for picture quality. Compared to LED bulbs, OLEDs provide higher contrasts than LEDs can. That means the screen can easily go from being extremely bright to absolute black with no blooming in the picture.

LG’s extravagant ‘Massive Curve of Nature’ is the most mesmerizing thing at CES 2019

TwitterFacebook

LG has a long tradition of creating mesmerizing displays with its curved OLED TVsCES 2019 was no exception.

Last year, CES attendees were treated to the spectacular OLED Canyon and the year before it stunned with the OLED Tunnel. We had a hunch LG would return to CES with something even wilder, but we didn’t expect a waterfall composed of OLED 4K TVs.

You can hate on CES all you want — it’s too crowded, everyone’s coughing on each other, the food sucks, etc. — but it’s impossible to not be swept away by LG’s “Massive Curve of Nature” display at its booth entrance.

Put off laundry day even longer with LG’s self-cleaning closet

TwitterFacebook

Laundry day sucks. And while we don’t yet have robots that can actually do our laundry for us (well, WE don’t, anyway), LG might have come up with the next best thing: a smart cabinet that can “refresh” your nasty, dirty clothes for you.

It’s called the LG Styler Black Tinted Mirror Glass Door, and it’s essentially a freestanding wardrobe with a built-in steamer and hangers that automatically move around to de-wrinkle your clothes.

The closet gizmo can’t fully clean your clothes for you, but LG says its TrueSteam technology “eliminates over 99.9 percent of the germs and bacteria found in clothing to keep one’s wardrobe hygienically clean.” Moving hangers shake out offensive odors while hot air is pumped in to keep clothes dry and wrinkle-free.  Read more…

LG says its AI can detect home appliance problems before they happen

This morning’s LG CES press conference was, predictably, all about TVs. Big TVs. High res TVs. Rolling TVs. The company did, however, give a little stage time to its appliance line and, per usual, allotted some lip service to its ThinQ AI offering. The company’s definition and use of artificial intelligence seems nebulous, at best […]

LG is adding Apple AirPlay and HomeKit support to its TVs

There’s a trend here. After Samsung and Vizio, LG is also adding support for Apple’s ecosystem to its TV operating system webOS. Specifically, people who buy an LG TV in 2019 should be able to share content to their TVs using AirPlay 2. TVs will also be compatible with HomeKit, letting you create custom scenarios […]

LG’s ridiculous retractable TV takes a step closer to reality

Will LG’s over-the-top rollable TV ever be real? And at the end of the day does it really matter? The company offered another glimpse at the 65-inch LG Signature OLED TV R (model 65R9) during its CES press conference. It’s ever bit as big, brush and completely unnecessary as ever. Ultimately these kinds of devices are […]
