If you don’t trust America’s political system, you have plenty of reasons not to — and you’re not alone.

In a video by RepresentUs, an organization aimed at ending corruption in politics, actress Jennifer Lawrence lays out a step-by-step guide that covers what’s wrong with America’s corrupt political system, but also how to fix it. Her confidence and revolutionary spirit resemble that of her fictional Hunger Games character Katniss Everdeen, but the issues she talks about are very real.

Political conversations about passing laws, financing campaigns, and lobbying can sometimes feel complicated, boring, or pretentious. But this video is anything but, thanks to the colorful graphics and silly banter between Lawrence and Josh Silver, director of RepresentUs. Whether you’re conservative, liberal, or somewhere in the middle, you’ll want to watch this comprehensive yet easy-to-follow video on how to pass election and anti-corruption laws, and ultimately, give the power back to the people. Spain’s new female-dominated government has just made history

TwitterFacebook

Spain’s new government has only just been sworn in, but it’s already made history. That’s because the women in this cabinet outnumber the men.

King Felipe VI of Spain swore in the new government on Thursday, with women occupying 11 of the 17 cabinet posts.

That equates to 61.1 percent women—the highest proportion of women in government since the country became a democracy in 1978.

The “adult day-care centre” that is the White House is getting even cattier, with the president referring to Steve Bannon as “Sloppy Steve” in a tweet.

One of these excerpts detailed former White House Chief Strategist Bannon referring to Donald Trump Jr.’s Trump Tower meeting with a Russian lawyer “treasonous.”

“When he was fired, he not only lost his job, he lost his mind,” responded Trump in a statement released by the White House. He then dropped a cheeky cease and desist letter on Bannon. Read more…

Facebook just banned Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov in compliance with U.S. sanctions

TwitterFacebook

Facebook obeys U.S. sanctions. This rule was made abundantly clear after a Russian internet watchdog demanded an explanation for why Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov’s Facebook and Instagram accounts had been blocked.

The controversial leader said his accounts were blocked without an explanation on Saturday, according to The Guardian. The decision from Facebook, which owns Instagram, came after the U.S. imposed travel and financial sanctions against Kadyrov last week.

“We became aware and have now confirmed that the accounts appear to be maintained by or on behalf of parties who appear on the U.S. Specially Designated Nationals List and thus, subject to U.S. trade sanctions. For this reason, Facebook has a legal obligation to disable these accounts,” a Facebook spokesperson wrote in an email to Mashable.  Read more…
