Why you should add ‘About Time’ to your holiday movie list

TwitterFacebook

Each December, we bust out the holiday cheer, from obnoxious Christmas music to Love Actually on a loop. I’m all about this — I usually leave my tree up until my January birthday — but I start with a different movie: About Time.

From Love Actually writer-director Richard Curtis, About Time is comparatively trimmed down, following the life of Tim (Domhnall Gleeson), the young son in a family where the men can travel through time. There are no other sci-fi frills (and probably some plot holes as a result, but who cares!), since as Tim’s father (Bill Nighy) notes, they can’t change anything outside their own lives.  Read more…

People think this Namibian model looks just like Regina George from ‘Mean Girls’

TwitterFacebook

No, it’s not Regina George from Mean Girls.

It’s a picture of 16-year-old Namibian model Clarisse Muller, who has got the internet talking because she looks pretty much identical to the character, played by Rachel McAdams, in the hit 2004 film.

Muller’s image was posted by a teen magazine called Afterbreak, who suddenly found their tweet going viral because of Muller’s doppelganger looksThe magazine’s website also crashed because of the immense attention their photo received.

This month we chat with Miss Teen Namibia 2018 1st Runner Up, Clasrisse Muller. An inspirational teen with an incredible mission

14 years later, Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams are still only the second best couple in ‘The Notebook’

TwitterFacebook

Prepare the tissues: Monday marks the 14th anniversary of Nicholas Sparks’ romantic novel, The Notebook, hitting screens as an instant classic

This story of lovers rekindling their passionate relationship has been a staple on romantic movie lists since the film’s premiere on June 25, 2004—and a personal favorite of mine since my parents finally deemed it age appropriate. (I was a mature 8-year-old and am still upset I didn’t see it in theaters, Linda.)

While starring actors (and previously IRL couple) Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling snagged the 2005 MTV Movie Awards Best Kiss trophy, they are hardly the most romantic couple of The Notebook. Gena Rowlands and the late James Garner portray the same couple sixty years in the future and tell a less sparkly, but more honest tale of what true love can and should look like.  Read more…

‘Disobedience’ has some of the most realistic lesbian sex scenes, uh, ever

TwitterFacebook

Whether you’re a queer person aching for representation or a straight human looking for a good time, we are all searching for the same thing in life: quality lesbian sex scenes.

Historically, they’ve been excruciatingly hard to find. That’s why it’s delightful to see newly-released indie drama Disobedience get it mostly right. Neither a heteronormative pornographic fantasy nor a dry, anthropological account, Disobedience manages to depict queer sex without exploiting the actors performing it.

Bonus: It’s super hot.

There’s a new ‘Game Night’ trailer and we honestly can’t wait for this movie

TwitterFacebook

Annie (Rachel McAdams) and Max (Jason Bateman) might be in over their heads this Game Night. A new trailer introduces us to the film’s central couple, who met at bar trivia and love regular game nights – until Brooks (Kyle Chandler) hosts one that goes too far.

The new trailer also gives us a little more of Jesse Plemons’ ambiguously antagonistic presence (Landry and Coach reunion!). It looks like he was part of the group until his wife left him, but did she leave because she had moved on or because he might be some kind of murderer? Unclear! Some scenes from previous trailers have been extended, and new jokes promise a movie that doesn’t give away all its best gags in the trailers. Read more…
