8 of the best pillows for a good night’s sleep

TwitterFacebook

Achieving a good night’s sleep isn’t always easy. Busy schedules, frequent stress, and bad rest environments can be culprits for sleep troubles. And it’s more common than you think.

According to the American Sleep Association, 50 to 70 million U.S. adults have a sleep disorder. If your sleepless nights are taking a toll on your health, it might be time for you to buy a new pillow.

Pillows nowadays come with many not-so-basic features, including hypoallergenic materials, anti-wicking fabrics, and memory foam technologies for head, neck, and shoulder support. With so many options, it can be hard to find the right fit. Before you buy a pillow, there are a few things you might want to consider.  Read more…

Could this weird $12 gadget be the cure for snoring?

TwitterFacebook

Chances are, you’ve encountered an awful snorer at some point in your life. Maybe it was that person you sat next to on a trans-Atlantic flight. Maybe it was your old college roommate. Maybe it’s your partner. Who knows? Maybe it’s you.

Snoring is common — the American Academy of Sleep Medicine found 40% of men and 24% of women are noisy sleepers — but totally annoying.

Image: Rawtronics

That’s where RAWTronics’ Anti-Snoring Device comes in. Made of a FDA-approved plastic, this quirky gizmo is designed to reduce snoring and leave you with a smooth, silent slumber.

Simply stick the two prongs into your nostrils — they’re shaped like your nostrils to ensure the perfect fit — and allow yourself to fall asleepPeople snore because they can’t move air freely through their nose and throat, but this device helps with that to apparently stop the snoring. Read more…

You can now spend $25 on a nap, thanks to Casper

TwitterFacebook

There are few resources in this world more valuable than sleep — and it looks like mattress startup Casper has found a way to cash in on everyone’s obsession with getting a little more shut-eye.

Casper opened the doors to The Dreamery, its new facility offering customers “nap sessions” for $25 a pop, on Wednesday.

What’s a nap session, exactly? You’ll get 45 minutes of uninterrupted time in a “Casper Nook.” The Nook, according to Racked, contains a Casper mattress decked out with Casper bedding as well as designer pajamas, socks, and an eye mask — fresh for every napper, of course. Also included: free beverages, a toothbrush set, face wash, and relaxing sleep sounds courtesy of Headspace. Read more…

Take a nap on these $36 sheets and get a break from *waves hand* everything

TwitterFacebook

If you’re feeling worn down by the dumpster fire that was the last week of June 2018, upgrading your bedding could be just what you need. Seriously. You can’t check Twitter while you’re asleep, after all.

There are plenty of stores and direct-to-consumer companies that sell top-tier sheet sets, but at a couple hundred dollars a pop, they’re hard to justify. But not all is lost — you can pick up an eco-friendly, ultra-soft, bamboo set for just $36 thanks to something we like to call capitalism and the world wide web.

Cuddling up with fresh sheets is seriously the best. They have the power to keep you cool and give you a cozier, more comfortable slumber. Plus, you spend a third of your life in bed — really, there’s science to back it up —  so it’s in your best interest to invest in sheets that you love.  Read more…

Is this weighted blanket the key to a better night’s sleep?

TwitterFacebook

In times of stress and anxiety, when stiff muscles and racing thoughts keep you from sleep, a big hug can work like magic. But unless you’ve got a very dedicated partner, or you’ve hired a professional snuggler, it’s hard to find bearhugs on demand in the middle of the night.

That’s the concept behind the Serenity Weighted Gravity Blanket. The 20-lb. comforter was designed to comfort you by applying hug-like pressure, and could even help fight insomnia.

With weighted beads sewn inside, the Serenity blanket provides the coverage and warmth of your average duvet, but with a touch of added pressure. Not enough to crush you, but just enough to feel snug and secure.  Read more…

Sit back, relax, and let GDPR legislation lull you into a peaceful slumber

TwitterFacebook

Drifting off to the land of nod is hard in this day and age, especially when we’re not entirely sure what companies are doing with our personal data.

But, GDPR—a.k.a. Europe’s new General Data Protection Regulation—might offer up a little peace of mind for those of us residing in the European Union. Not only that, GDPR legislation literally doubles up as a bedtime story, thanks to a meditation and sleep app.

I mean, we all knew that legislation was a little dull, right? But who knew it could be literally soporific, eh?

Sleep and meditation app Calm is releasing an audio recording of extracts of GDPR legislation being read by the former voice of the BBC shipping forecast Peter Jefferson. Jefferson will read “the most soothing passages” from the 209-page regulation.  Read more…
