On a recent Saturday morning in Brooklyn, Mashable and Canon invited the dogs of New York City to experience a one-of-a-kind “dog photo park” MashMeet. First, we warmed up our cameras and our canines with a photo shoot at North Brooklyn Farms. As dogs ran agility courses on the field, BMX bikers practiced their tricks on the nearby track. Driving through the rural landscape of South Texas, wind turbines dot the topography like stoic guardians of the open expanses. Perhaps there is no more powerful metaphor for progress — and for the future — than these majestic structures.

Beto Gonzalez, the superintendent of Webb Consolidated Independent School District, calls the turbines “towers of hope.” Beginning this fall, Webb CISD will roll out a program — the first in the country at the high-school level — that teaches kids the hands-on skills they’ll need to become wind turbine technicians in the green economy.

It was a natural fit, explains Gonzalez, that just as AT&T was investing in a wind energy center in South Texas, the school district would hone in on efforts to prepare kids for jobs in the renewable energy sector. “We [wanted] to create a college-level curriculum for our high schoolers to give them hope for gainful employment in purposeful, technical careers,” says Gonzalez. NEXA took us by surprise when they translated their signature shade, NEXA Blue into a beautiful symphony. The brand brought together a bunch of gifted musicians from across the globe: Litsa, Samara and Eduardo, who had a superpower called synesthesia.

Device temperature control may not be something you’ve spent much time thinking about, but it’s one of the key considerations that the engineers who design your electronics must take into account. In the video above, Lenovo Senior Competitive Analyst and “Explainer of Things” Kevin Beck details the process of optimizing thermal performance and why it matters — and he does so while sampling a series of increasingly spicy hot sauces.

As Beck progresses from mild to mouth-scorching hot sauces, you may notice that he’s not exactly functioning at peak eloquence. (In fact, he’s pretty much choking his way through the final sentences, peppering the interview with some… let’s call it “colorful” language.) In a way, the same thing happens to your electronic devices: When they get too hot, performance suffers. This is why you may have noticed your old PC getting glitchy when you’ve got 16 browser tabs open or when you’re six hours into an intense binge-watching session.
