The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is commonly abbreviated to CAOS for brevity, but if the world were perfect and CAOS were a show that revolved solely around its most interesting character, that acronym could easily stand for something else.

Cousin Ambrose is by far the breakout character of The Chilling Adventures. Pulled from the rebooted comics on which the show is based, Ambrose is Sabrina’s warlock cousin who is on house arrest for committing a crime in the eyes of the magical community. Help, the ‘Riverdale’ cameo on Netflix’s ‘The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’ makes zero sense

Ever since The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina was announced by Riverdale creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, the question of how and when the two shows — both starring characters from Archie comics — would cross over.

Now that Sabrina’s entire first season is out on Netflix, that question has been answered in a way that makes literally everything else about both shows way more complicated than it has to be.

While characters on Sabrina name-dropped Riverdale High as early on as Episode 2, it took until Episode 7 for a real Riverdale character to show up in the flesh. Ben Button, who has primarily been a background character on Riverdale for its first two seasons, makes a cameo as Miss Wardwell’s pizza delivery boy. The way his scene ends, with the evil Wardwell luring him into her house with the intention to eat him, is meant to emphasize the cannibalistic nature of the Greendale witches…but there’s one big problem with that. Teen dramas often revolve around the universal experience of growing up and being forced, for the first time, to make choices that have an impact on the rest of one’s life. Whereas children don’t often have control over their futures, teens face choosing the right classes, picking the right friends, and the looming threat of college applications coming for their necks. It’s a scary and essential part of life.

In a lot of ways, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina explores this theme to its limit and winds up being a spooky and thoughtful exploration of a young woman’s discovering her agency while also fulfilling her cosmic destiny. It just…takes a while to get there. Read more…

The upcoming reboot of the classic Nickelodeon sitcom Sabrina the Teenage Witch is going dark as hell. In the first poster for The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, starring Mad Men’s Kiernan Shipka, makes it clear that this isn’t your mama’s teen witch. Cause this time around, Sabrina’s not afraid to let her Lucifer flag fly.
