Ever since The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina was announced by Riverdale creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, the question of how and when the two shows — both starring characters from Archie comics — would cross over.
Now that Sabrina’s entire first season is out on Netflix, that question has been answered in a way that makes literally everything else about both shows way more complicated than it has to be.

While characters on Sabrina name-dropped Riverdale High as early on as Episode 2, it took until Episode 7 for a real Riverdale character to show up in the flesh. Ben Button, who has primarily been a background character on Riverdale for its first two seasons, makes a cameo as Miss Wardwell’s pizza delivery boy. The way his scene ends, with the evil Wardwell luring him into her house with the intention to eat him, is meant to emphasize the cannibalistic nature of the Greendale witches…but there’s one big problem with that. Riverdale has never been the most chill teen drama out there, but over the course of its first two seasons its plot has been slowly riding a funicular to the top of Mount Bonkers.
What started out as a show about a very dumb boy who couldn’t play guitar and football at the same time transformed into a wild romp through a world populated with gangsters with names like Poppa Poutine, 15-year-olds leading gangs of violent bikers, and Pixy Stix-looking drugs called Jingle Jangle.

Yep, you’d be wrong. From the looks of the season three trailer, the only things on the horizon for the residents of everyone’s suburban hell-pit are misery, misery, and even more misery.

Is Riverdale OK? I’m asking because it’s been really different the past few months. Nothing’s wrong, per se, I’m just wondering wherefore came the dramatic tonal shifts, or the characters acting like they woke up not knowing who they are, or that time it had a teenager do a striptease to that song from Donnie Darko that makes it feel like it’s raining even when it’s not.
Let’s take a look at how the characters looked when the audience met them and just…compare them with how they’re doing now. As a matter of example.
