Want to visit Howl’s Moving Castle or run through the forest with My Neighbor Totoro IRL?

Japan’s Oscar-winning animation company Studio Ghibli announced in Jan. 2017 it was opening the theme park of our dreams — and now we have a release date and the first concept art.

Reported by The Japan Times, the park, which will be an explorable, real-life version of the beloved worlds created Ghibli co-founder Hayao Miyazaki, will officially open near Nagoya in 2022. 

The Aichi Prefecture government confirmed to the publisher that the park will open at the Expo 2005 Aichi Commemorative Park in Nagakute city. Read more…

On Friday, Florida State University student Megan Connolly shared footage of herself on a fairly terrifying-looking theme park ride.

It’s hard to say what’s more entertaining: Connelly’s reaction, or her friend’s reaction to her reaction.

To be fair, it does sounds like a pretty intense ride.

Construction has started on Disney’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge theme park and the first videos of its progress look amazing. What did the worlds we love in that faraway galaxy look like before they came into our lives, fully formed? 

If the constructed land looks unfamiliar – as does the concept art at the end – it’s because this isn’t anywhere we’ve been before. Disney revealed that this park is going to look like a planet called Batuu, an Outer Rim planet we’ve never been to before. That alone is exciting, and Batuu will have to be able to house attractions relevant to all 10 movies (and yes, by the time the park opens, there will be 10). No sign of the Millennium Falcon yet, but it’s coming – and it’ll be a fixture. Read more…

One of Disney’s most beloved movie franchises is finally getting its own dedicated land in Disney World’s Magic Kingdom — Toy Story Land.

Toy Story Land is opening at Disney World June 30, Disney announced Friday, where guests will feel like they’ve been shrunk down to the size of a toy alongside the movies’ iconic characters like Woody, Buzz, and Jessie. The 11-acre area of the park will have multiple rides and food options inspired by Toy Story.
