Tim Cook told Trump China tariffs were the wrong move

In a new interview with Bloomberg television, Apple CEO Tim Cook says he addressed China trade tariffs in a late-April meeting with President Trump. “I talked about trade and the importance of trade, and how I felt that two countries trading together make the pie larger,” Cook said, adding that while there are existing problems […]

Apple CEO Tim Cook remembers Steve Jobs in heartfelt commencement speech

TwitterFacebook

Apple CEO Tim Cook turned to a familiar source when it came to offering advice to the class of 2018.

Speaking at the commencement ceremony at Duke University, Cook encouraged the students in attendance to learn from the example set by Apple founder Steve Jobs.

“No big challenge has ever been solved, and no lasting improvement has ever been achieved unless people dare to try something different, dare to think different,” Cook said echoing the words of Apple’s famous marketing campaign.

Congratulations and thank you to the @DukeU class of 2018! Graduates, be fearless! pic.twitter.com/XeDV9seX0E

What do Trump and Apple want from each other, anyway?

TwitterFacebook

President Donald Trump and Apple CEO Tim Cook are set to meet on Wednesday afternoon. And though the temperamentally and politically opposed men are in no way amicable, it’s easy to imagine either party initiating the tête-à-tête.

That’s because, when it comes to trade, taxes, and China, a lot is on the line for the both parties.

Looking forward to my meeting with Tim Cook of Apple. We will be talking about many things, including how the U.S. has been treated unfairly for many years, by many countries, on trade.

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) April 25, 2018

With Trump’s reference to trade in a recent tweet about the meeting, and with a brewing trade war with China, it seems as though Cook and Trump will most likely discuss Apple’s position as a company with interests in both the U.S. and China — and why it wants to keep trade flowing. Read more…

Mark Zuckerberg fires back at Tim Cook’s ‘extremely glib’ criticism of Facebook

The gloves are coming off.

Mark Zuckerberg publicly responded Monday to Apple CEO Tim Cook’s harsh criticism about the way Facebook handles the private information of its users. He called Cook’s argument “extremely glib.”

The tiff between two of the most powerful men in Silicon Valley started last week when Cook was asked what he would do if he were Zuckerberg in the wake of the Cambridge Analytica scandal. He responded with a curt answer: “I wouldn’t be in this situation.”

Apple CEO Tim Cook just dunked on Facebook and Mark Zuckerberg

TwitterFacebook

Facebook is Silicon Valley’s punching bag du jour following the Cambridge Analytica crisis, and Apple’s CEO just threw an uppercut.

Asked what he would do if he was Mark Zuckerberg, Tim Cook said Wednesday: “I wouldn’t be in this situation.”

Goodness! And look at that face.

Of course, Tim Cook really wouldn’t be in this situation, given that he isn’t in the social media business. (Ping, a failed social network tied to iTunes, was a product of the Steve Jobs era, after all.) And Apple has championed user privacy to an extreme degree, notably warring with the FBI over a locked iPhone connected to a terrorist attack in San Bernardino, California.  Read more…
