Boston Dynamics robot SpotMini twerking to ‘Uptown Funk’ is still terrifying

Robot engineering company Boston Dynamics released a video of its robot dog SpotMini dancing to “Uptown Funk” on Tuesday, and I’m just wondering: Is this supposed to make me feel better about our robot overlords?

Sure, it’s still the early days of AI and robot innovations, and our robotic counterparts don’t yet reign supreme—but I know it’s coming — and this doesn’t make me feel any better about it! 

Of course, I recognize that this video is meant to be humorous and adorable. But with every precise dance move I’m reminded that this sophisticated machine can be programmed to execute me as easily as it can be programmed to dance to Bruno Mars. An incredibly upsetting thought. Read more…

Local police lip sync to ‘Uptown Funk’ on their lunch break

Gotta love a lip sync, especially a one-take-wonder by your local police station.

A video of police officers from Norfolk, Virginia, lip syncing and dancing through their station to Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk” has gone viral, clocking up 25 million views in two days.

Around 40 officers, who were challenged by Texas’ Corinth Police Department, took part over their lunchtime, reports local newspaper The Virginian-Pilot. Corinth had already thrown down Miley Cyrus’ ‘”Party in the U.S.A.”

Even Norfolk’s bomb squad and fire service get involved. Now, they’ve challenged Seattle Police Department, Norfolk Constabulary, Virginia Beach Police Department, and St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.  Read more…

‘Uptown Funk’ has made carpooling awkward for Michelle Pfeiffer’s kids

Michelle Pfeiffer was “flattered” — if a little perplexed — to be name-dropped in “Uptown Funk.” 

The mention was, however, a little embarrassing: for Pfeiffer when it randomly starts playing during a workout class, and for her kids when it comes on the radio in the carpool line.
