Few shows are as committed to anything as The Handmaid’s Tale is to delivering deeply upsetting content.

The first six episodes of the show’s second season have more or less been an unyielding loop of horrors that have driven home the futility of fighting against a fundamentalist regime as powerful and twisted as Gilead, and audiences have been treated to the sights of a thwarted escape attempt, the murder of innocents, mental reprogramming, teeth falling out just all over the damn place, and the justified poisoning of Marisa Tomei.
