Huawei overtakes Apple to become second largest smartphone vendor

Huawei has finally done it: The Chinese giant shipped more smartphones in one quarter than Apple, and is now second only to Samsung. 

The company shipped 54.2 million handsets in the second quarter of 2018, an enormous year-over-year increase of 40.9%, according to IDC. Samsung was in first place with 71.5 million handsets shipped, a year-over-year change of -10.4%. While Apple shipped 41.3 million handsets, compared to 41 million in the same period last year. 

Strategy Analytics and Canalys shared similar numbers on Tuesday — all three vendors have Huawei clearly ahead of Apple.  Read more…
