A television personality becoming leader of a country? That’s preposterous.
On Sunday night, John Oliver covered the impending Italian election. He ran down the list of candidates, presenting Italy’s current political situation as a dire one, particularly given the apparent comeback of ex-prime minister and waxwork come-to-life, Silvio Berlusconi.
Oliver has a new option for Italian people. He consulted “half a dozen” Italian legal experts who told him that he can’t run for Italian prime minister but equally “admitted” that the Italian constitution does not specifically prohibit a non-politician, or even a non-citizen from running.
