CNN to create one final season of ‘Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown’

Thank goodness, CNN is giving Parts Unknown fans a proper send off.

The docuseries’ home network has confirmed a final season of Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown is in the works, according to an LA Times report. Plans are in place for CNN to deliver a fall premiere.

Bourdain’s death in June left viewers speculating on the travel series’ fate. Many believed the final episode of Season 11 (which aired on July 24) would mark the show’s end.

The announcement of new episodes is bittersweet news for the esteemed documentarian’s fans. While Season 12 will feature footage of the late chef, Bourdain’s iconic scripted narration will appear in only one episode—a collaboration with CNN colleague W. Kamau Bell that concluded production before Bourdain’s death. Read more…

Anthony Bourdain’s first time at Waffle House is a spiritual, unpretentious must-watch

In 2015, Anthony Bourdain went to Waffle House for the first time.

Like many people who go to Waffle House, he and chef Sean Brock paid a late-night visit, slipping under the yellow awning into a world Bourdain aptly described as “marvelous — an irony-free zone where everything is beautiful and nothing hurts.”

In the Parts Unknown clip, which people shared fondly on Twitter Friday in the wake of Bourdain’s death, the two watch the southern chain’s classics being cooked — fried eggs, waffles, hash browns held together with gleaming cheese and studded with chunks of ham. As the shocking news of Anthony Bourdain’s death reverberated around the world, the world took to social media to remember the chef and TV personality, sharing memories and thoughts on the man who made such a large impact on his industry and beyond. 

Bourdain rocketed to fame thanks to his 2000 book Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly, an early excerpt of which appeared in a 1999 issue of The New Yorker. He later wrote several more books — and even a graphic novel — and his writing continued to appear in places like the New Yorker and the New York Times.
