These Twitter reactions prove ‘Bodyguard’ is one of the best British shows we’ve had in ages

TwitterFacebook

At one point on Sunday night, a solid 11 million people were tuned in to watch the finale of the BBC’s nail-chewingly tense crime thriller Bodyguard.

A whole bunch of them were tweeting about it, too. Just a quick glance through the #Bodyguard hashtag was enough to see just how much of an impact Jed Mercurio’s six-parter, which has recently been sold to Netflix, made.

In the run-up to the final episode, UK politicians had their priorities straight.

Ok sorry I’m parking the #PeoplesVote and the #LabourPartyConference worthy as they are! Back in my hotel room so excited for #TheBodyguard

BBC pulls Logan Paul interview following Twitter backlash

TwitterFacebook

BBC Radio 1 has made the decision to pull an interview with Logan Paul that was scheduled to air on Thursday night.

They announced the decision on Twitter around the time the interview was due to go out, saying they didn’t feel it was right after listening back to it.

“We understand some of your strong views on Logan — but ultimately if we don’t think the interview is good enough — we don’t air it,” reads the tweet.

We were going to hear from Logan Paul & KSI on their boxing match tonight.

Carrie Gracie donates backdated BBC pay to help other women fighting for equality

TwitterFacebook

Carrie Gracie — the BBC journalist who resigned after learning she was paid 50 percent less than her male colleagues — has donated her backdated pay from the BBC to other women fighting for equality.

In a joint statement, the BBC and Carrie Gracie announced they had “reached an agreement to resolve their differences.” Per the statement, the BBC has apologised to Gracie for underpaying her, and she has received backdated pay.

In January, Gracie resigned her post after discovering what her male colleagues were being paid. “With great regret, I have left my post as China Editor to speak out publicly on a crisis of trust at the BBC,” wrote Gracie at the time.   Read more…

BBC reimagines the perfect human body and it’ll give you nightmares

TwitterFacebook

Humans aren’t perfect, but anatomist Alice Roberts knows how they could be.

On Wednesday, BBC shared a terrifying video in which Roberts reimagines the human body and creates Alice 2.0 — a version of herself with no errors and the most successful features of animals.

This, uh, different looking human model, has large eyes and ears, a chimp’s lower back, the legs of an emu, small pumps in her thighs to help blood circulation, and a breast-less chest. Within her lies a dog’s heart, “the graceful lungs of a swan,” and more. Casual. And oh yeah, to make the whole childbirth thing easier, she has a marsupial pouch. NO THANK YOU. Read more…

BBC waives the licence fee for street parties watching the royal wedding

TwitterFacebook

Good news for people planning on hosting viewing parties for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding—you won’t have to pay a licence fee to screen it.

The BBC announced it will be waiving its fee for communities screening the wedding live, so people hosting street parties and other events on the day won’t need to worry about buying a licence.

In the UK, premises need to buy a TV licence in order to view or stream TV programmes on any device. But, the BBC sometimes issues a “dispensation” for broadcasts it deems to be “of national importance.” In a statement, Pipa Doubtfire, the BBC’s Head of Revenue Management, said the BBC considers the royal wedding to be such an occasion.  Read more…
