Aside from the fact Meryl Streep is going to be in it, we don’t know all that much about what Big Little Lies season two has in store.

Well, now we know one more thing, at least: Meryl Streep is going to be in it and she’s going to get pelted with ice cream. A big towering cone of the stuff. By Reese Witherspoon, no less.

On Wednesday, photos of the scene being filmed began to circulate on Twitter.

We are a culture obsessed with dead girls — so much so that the trope is now a wildly popular sub-genre.

The misogyny of Dead Girl narratives is evident in recent additions like Twin Peaks, True Detective, 13 Reasons Why, The Night Of, and countless others. Most use the corpses of beautiful young women as a vehicle for the growth of male characters.

And that’s just the surface-level issue.

I myself am guilty of an irresistible attraction to the Dead Girl genre. But I’ve always been baffled by its failure to engage with the reality and trauma of everyday violence against women. Read more…

Step aside Big Little Lies, because the bravest performance of Nicole Kidman’s illustrious career is actually her just straight up eating a four-course meal of bugs.

In the latest video for Vanity Fair‘s ‘Secret Talent Theatre’ series, the esteemed Oscar-winning actresses digs into each critter-crawling dish — all while sporting a chic floral dress complete with an ascot. Because apparently digesting “micro-livestock” is… her thing?

Somehow still the embodiment of class and poise, Kidman moans in delight as she daintily pops a live, writhing hornworm down her gullet. “Very moist, chewy,” she says in her best Yelp review voice. “Can’t quite describe the flavor but…” she gags. “I think I’m going to need some water.” Read more…

‘Big Little Lies’ Season 2 is actually happening, for real this time

After months of breathless speculation, Mashable has confirmed that Big Little Lies Season 2 has officially been ordered by HBO, with executive producers and stars Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman once again on board.

Because the show was initially intended as a limited series based on Liane Moriarty’s bestselling novel, the actors weren’t optioned for additional seasons when they signed on for Season 1, but most of the cast is expected to return and negotiations are currently underway, per HBO.

HBO says the second season will “explore the malignancy of lies, the durability of friendships, the fragility of marriage and, of course, the vicious ferocity of sound parenting. Relationships will fray, loyalties will erode…the potential for emotional and bodily injury shall loom.” Read more…
