Russia attempted to hack the DNC again after the 2018 Midterms, claim Democrats

New court documents filed by the Democratic National Committee unveiled a previously unknown infiltration attempt by Russian hackers.

“On November 14, 2018, dozens of DNC email addresses were targeted in a spearphishing campaign,” claim the DNC in the documents, which were filed on Thursday night. “The content of these emails and their timestamps were consistent with a spearphishing campaign that leading cybersecurity experts have tied to Cozy Bear (APT 29).”

Cozy Bear is the Russian intelligence agency-linked hacker group that infiltrated the DNC during the 2016 presidential elections

The DNC says there is no evidence that the group was successful in the attempt, which was made one week after the 2018 Midterms. Read more…

False alarm: DNC backtracks on voter database hacking attempt claim

Whoops! One day after reports broke about a hacking attempt targeting the Democratic National Committee’s voter database, the DNC is admitting the whole incident was a false alarm.

Reported yesterday by CNN, the DNC reached out to the FBI for assistance after cybersecurity firm Lookout warned party officials of an extremely convincing fake login page it discovered that appeared to be part of a spear phishing operation. Lookout also reached out to the NGP Van, the DNC voter database management company and DigitalOcean, the web host that was hosting the fake site. Read more…

Someone just attempted to hack the DNC’s voter database

An attempt has just been made, once again, to hack the Democratic National Committee. This time, the target: the Democratic Party’s voter database.

CNN is reporting that on Tuesday, the DNC reached out to the FBI to inform them of the attempted hack after a cybersecurity firm discovered a website that faked the look of VoteBuilder, the party’s voter database login page.

The cybersecurity firm that first found the fake page, Lookout, does not work for the DNC, but itimmediately reached out to the party upon discovering the hacking attempt.  Read more…

The DNC just served Wikileaks with a lawsuit over Twitter

Wikileaks just got served with a tweet.

On Friday, the law firm representing the Democratic National Committee served Wikileaks with a single tweet, linking to a number of legal documents related to its lawsuit against the organization founded by Julian Assange.

Cohen Milstein, the firm representing the DNC, set up the Twitter account @ProcessServiceC just this August, and fired off that single tweet — the account’s first and only posting so far — at Wikileaks today, effectively serving them with the lawsuit. Read more…

12 Russians indicted for DNC hack, officially placing foreign blame on 2016 email attack

Twelve Russian intelligence officers have just been indicted by the Justice Department for hacking the Democratic National Committee and Hillary Clinton campaign during the 2016 elections.

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein announced on Friday that 12 foreign agents from Russia’s GRU intelligence agency attempted to interfere with the 2016 U.S. presidential elections. In order to do this, the agents used spear-phishing attacks through malware. Using the “X-agent” malware, the Russian intelligence officers were able to use and collect passwords from unsuspecting targets via key-logging and screenshots.  Read more…
