Much of the nation is still reeling from Monday’s shocking press conference between Donald Trump and Russian president Vladimir Putin — even the folks at Fox News are having trouble finding their bearings.

The anchors and pundits at the network have generally been very pro-Trump, but Monday’s events have thrown a wrench in the works. Even the folks at “Fox & Friends,” who have a notoriously cozy relationship with the President, spoke out after the press conference, where he repeatedly sided with Putin over American intelligence officials over Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. presidential election.  Read more…

President Donald Trump’s entire performance during his joint press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin was shocking — just ask Anderson Cooper — but a handful of moments stood out above the rest.

1. Forceful removal of protester

Things were crazy even before the two leaders took the stage when a man was very forcibly removed from the gallery, a startling moment of violence that fueled an already tense atmosphere.

The sheet of paper the man was holding reportedly said “nuclear weapons ban treaty,” and he was eventually identified as activist Sam Husseini. Read more…

12 Russians indicted for DNC hack, officially placing foreign blame on 2016 email attack

Twelve Russian intelligence officers have just been indicted by the Justice Department for hacking the Democratic National Committee and Hillary Clinton campaign during the 2016 elections.

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein announced on Friday that 12 foreign agents from Russia’s GRU intelligence agency attempted to interfere with the 2016 U.S. presidential elections. In order to do this, the agents used spear-phishing attacks through malware. Using the “X-agent” malware, the Russian intelligence officers were able to use and collect passwords from unsuspecting targets via key-logging and screenshots.  Read more…

To fix itself, Twitter wants to measure ‘conversational health’

Jack Dorsey is earnestly looking for answers. 

In a tweetstorm on Thursday, the Twitter CEO said his company is searching for ways to root out trolling, bullying, hate speech, and political manipulation on the network. And in order to do that, Twitter wants to better understand the nature, or “health,” of conversations on its platform. 

Through Dorsey’s Tweets, the company has put out a Request for Proposals (RFP) for “Twitter Health Metrics.

We’re committing Twitter to help increase the collective health, openness, and civility of public conversation, and to hold ourselves publicly accountable towards progress.

Facebook tool lets you see if you followed the Russians

Facebook released a previously promised tool that lets you see if you’ve followed any of the fake pages meant to help Russia influence the 2016 presidential election. 

The tool, which you can check here, shows if you’ve followed Facebook or Instagram accounts associated with the Internet Research Agency, the Russian organization that’s been wreaking havoc for years, as outlined in this New York Times feature from June 2015 (published two weeks before Donald Trump entered the 2016 race).

Facebook subtly neither confirms nor denies Russian meddling during Brexit

Russia’s role in the U.S. presidential election is still being investigated. Now it’s under fire for possibly meddling in the UK’s Brexit vote. 

On Monday, BuzzFeed News reported about the possibility of Russian-backed ads influencing the June 2016 vote for the UK to withdraw from the European Union, also known as Brexit.

Afterwards, in a policy speech, UK Prime Minister Theresa May accused Russia of messing with the democratic process. 

“It is seeking to weaponize information,” she said about the country’s tactics. “We know what you are doing and you will not succeed.”  Read more…
