Rimac’s new supercar goes from 0-60 mph in an insane 1.85 seconds

Volkswagen has kicked off its presence at this year’s Geneva Motor Show with an electric, self-driving vehicle that’s more like a lounge on wheels than an actual car.
The atrociously named I.D. Vizzion has 665 kilometers (413 miles) of range and an incredibly sparse interior — think Tesla Model 3 but without a steering wheel or pedals.
The car will have an all-wheel drive system with dual electric motors and an output of 225 kW. It will have a huge, lithium-ion 111 kWh battery pack (for comparison, the Tesla Model X’s largest battery pack is 85 kWh). Read more…

Tesla is donating electric car chargers to select U.S. offices
Keeping your electric car charged is a big part of maintenance for those living the gas-free life, so Tesla is now bringing its Wall Connectors to offices — and it’s installing them for free.
Tesla introduced this month the Workplace Charging program, which brings electric vehicle charging units to office buildings, so that employees can get a charge while they work.
The program gives employees an easy way to juice up their cars while they sit in a parking lot for eight hours during the workday.

Electric car charge station payment systems may lack basic security measures
Just a PSA: If you charge your car regularly at a public charge station, you might want to keep an eye out for fraudulent charges on whatever card you use to pay for it. Researchers have found that some charge stations, specifically those that require a dedicated card, “have not implemented basic security mechanisms” like encryption. Read More

The all-new Fisker Inc. debuted its luxury electric car, the EMotion, at CES 2018, and it’s a beauty. Tesla made this feature to quell concerns about becoming stranded in the middle of nowhere
Tesla’s latest feature doesn’t even require owning one of its vehicles.
The electric car company today launched an online trip planning tool that shows people where they can drive around the U.S. in a Tesla.
Although anyone is free to explore the tool, it’s designed for prospective Tesla customers — perhaps those concerned about running out of battery life while stranded on a lonely, windswept New Mexican highway during monsoon season. Tesla owners already have this specialized navigation tool in their cars, but now, it’s being made available to everyone on the website.

Chinese electric car startup Nio has launched its first vehicle, the ES8. It’s an all-electric, modern SUV that’s a direct competitor to Tesla’s Model X — and it costs half as much.
The price for the ES8 starts at 448,000 yuan ($67,697) in China, while the Model X starts at 836,000 yuan ($126,328).
Despite being much cheaper than its U.S.-based rival, the Nio ES8 sounds like it can hold its own against the Model X. It’s a large, all-wheel drive seven seater that accelerates to from 0 to 100km/h in 4.4 seconds. The only downside is it’s only available in China. Read more…
