The interracial couple emoji is finally here following a Tinder campaign

Our emoji keyboards are ever-expanding, as the pictograph language continues to evolve and become more and more inclusive of all users. 

Up until this point, any emoji featuring two or more people was only been available in the default emoji yellow on iOS. But that’s about to change, and we have dating app Tinder to thank for that. 

The Unicode Consortium — the gatekeepers of all emoji — will be adding a range of people-holding-hands emoji with a mix of genders and skin colours, following Tinder’s #representlove campaign. 

The interracial couples emoji look like this, and they are pretty damn cute. We got the first look at all 230 emoji coming in 2019 earlier this year, but Unicode is now releasing the final designs, including the new couple emoji.   Read more…

A new year means new emoji… to make dick jokes with.

Unicode, the organisation responsible for approving emoji, has just released a list of 230 symbols which will make it to your devices in 2019. 

Among the pile includes a sloth, a yawning face, and a falafel, to name a few. But already receiving plenty of attention is the pinching hand emoji, because well, it totally symbolises a small penis.

Official emoji debut for disabled folks, service dogs, waffles and more

A gaggle of new emoji have just been approved by the Unicode Consortium, meaning they’ll be standard across any platforms that choose to support them. This batch includes some much-needed representation for people with various disabilities, new animals from guide dogs to otters, food and many more objects.

Aquarium points out Apple’s squid emoji isn’t quite right

Getting emoji to look right has for some reason, been a challenge.

There was the head scratching over Apple’s very plain bagel emoji, while Unicode earlier this year fixed up the once anatomically incorrect lobster emoji.

It appears there also needs to be work done on Apple’s squid emoji, which was added back in 2016. 

As raised by the Monterey Bay Aquarium on Twitter, the emoji is actually upside down, and the siphon — which allows a squid to move around, and enable respiration and waste discharge — is meant to be behind the head. Read more…
