Adorable Tesla phone charger is perfect for your desk

Tesla has figured out the perfect way for its users to show off their allegiance to its electric cars.

It’s started selling the cutest desktop versions of its supercharger stations, only the miniaturised ones are for juicing up your phone.

Tesla says in the item description, that the $45 charger is printed from the same 3D CAD data used for the actual car charging stations, in order to be an exact scale model of the real thing.

The timeless VW Beetle is about to step into the future.

Volkswagen is considering plans for an electric Beetle, according to VW’s chairman Herbert Diess.

Speaking to Autocar, Diess said that the company was “actively considering” plans for an electric Beetle as part of a range of zero-emissions cars.

He also added that if an electric successor would be made, it would actually be a throwback to the original rear-wheel drive Beetle.

“If we wanted to do a Beetle, electrically it would be much better than today’s model, much closer to history, because it could be rear-wheel drive,” said Diess. Read more…

China’s Uber is going to build a charging network to cover millions of electric cars

Didi Chuxing, which famously defeated Uber in China and conquered its huge domestic market, is planning to build an expansive charging network to support millions of electric cars.

The ride-hailing company has 21 million drivers, out of which 260,000 are driving electrics. That’s a mindbending one quarter share of the world’s entire two million EVs (electric vehicles) on the road — and Didi said it expects its EV fleet to hit one million in 2020.

On Thursday, Didi pledged that its planned charging network would be large enough to also support other EVs owned by members of the public. Read more…
