James Gunn is back as ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 3’ director

TwitterFacebook

In a huge reversal, Disney is welcoming James Gunn back to the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. He has been rehired to direct the third movie after he was fired in July last year.

The move was apparently decided on months ago. Disney Studios president Alan Horn was persuaded by Gunn’s public apology and his handling of the situation and decided to reverse course to reinstate him, according to Deadline. Mashable has confirmed the report.

Gunn also confirmed the news on Twitter with an emotional statement.

Sorry, Taika Waititi won’t be directing ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’

TwitterFacebook

Presumably someone will be directing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but it won’t be Taika Waititi.

The Thor: Ragnarok director made his position on that one very clear on Monday.

Speaking at FX’s Television Critics Association press event, Waititi denied the rumours that have been circling since last year.

“For me, those are James (Gunn)’s films,” Deadline reports him as saying. “Going into something like that with his stamp all over his films, would be like going into someone’s house and saying ‘Hey, I’m your new dad, and this is how we make peanut butter sandwiches now.’  Read more…

Former Guardians of the Galaxy writer/director James Gunn is becoming part of the DC family, according to multiple reports on Tuesday. And he may not be the only one.

A few hours after the news broke, Dave Bautista (who plays Drax in the Guardians series and has been very vocal in his support of Gunn) tweeted this:

Where do I sign up! James Gunn Boards ‘Suicide Squad 2’ To Write And Possibly Direct – Deadline https://t.co/OwdDbAm1Ks

— Dave Bautista (@DaveBautista) October 9, 2018

Baustista has previously stated that he no longer knows if he wants to work for Disney after Gunn was fired. Read more…

At Comic-Con, mixed feelings on James Gunn’s firing from ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’

TwitterFacebook

As the online debate rages on over Disney’s decision to fire director James Gunn from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, reactions on the ground at Comic-Con have been no less mixed.

Many of the attendees I spoke with seemed more uncertain than outraged – in either direction.

“I don’t know how to describe it,” said Suzanne Quon, a Mantis cosplayer. However, she continued, she ultimately agreed with Disney’s decision.

Guardians of the Galaxy is typically a family-friendly movie,” she said. “So I think if they’re trying to continue to pitch to that audience, they have to be aware of what their director has been doing.” Read more…

‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ fans attempt to decipher James Gunn’s latest tweet about ‘Vol. 3’

TwitterFacebook

Warning: Contains spoilers for Avengers: Infinity War.

When it comes to cheekily trolling his fan base on Twitter, James Gunn is almost as bad as Mark Hamill.

His latest “glimpse” of the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 script is no exception. On Monday, he tweeted the following image:

Here’s another glimpse of the #GotG Vol. 3 script#yourewelcome pic.twitter.com/EF8Ke1azsh

Let’s be honest — there’s almost certainly nothing in that image that gives any plot point, either tiny or large, away.  Read more…
