Screaming sausage videos are a thing, apparently

Ever cook a sausage and hear a hiss, or a sound that resembles a scream? Well, turns out you’re not the only one.

A video of sausages making what appear to be screaming sounds whilst being cooked was shared on YouTube on Monday, garnering over 527,000 views at the time of writing — but it appears it’s only one of many “sausage screaming” videos.

Many people have taken to YouTube with their videos of seemingly scared sausages, screaming at the top of their little sausage lungs. The videos have become something of their own video genre — and truthfully, I’m into them. Read more…

11 eating competitions that will leave you disgusted — but impressed

You’ve probably heard of competitive eating, those food challenges in which people consume ungodly amounts as fast as they can, battling it out for cash prizes as high as $10,000. These challenges span the globe, are broadcast on ESPN, and include just about anything edible: jalapeños, shrimp cocktail, and gyoza, to name just a few.

They’ve also got history. In a story from the 1400s, notes Eater, a Nordic man enters an eating competition with a god. In the 1700s, poet James Taylor wrote of the “Great Eater of Kent,” whom, Atlas Obscura reports, ate “some 60 eggs, a good portion of a lamb, and a handful of pies — a meal that left him hungry for more.” Read more…

College student learns how a hole got in her ceiling and it’s hot dogs

When college student Erin White asked the boys who previously lived in her house about the mysterious hole in the ceiling, she wasn’t prepared for their explanation.

When you picture holiday spirit, what do you think about? Ugly knit sweaters, chestnuts roasting on an open fire, hanging mistletoe — all of that cozy, feel good holiday cheer.

This group of boys apparently didn’t have mistletoe on hand when they accidentally destroyed the ceiling. Instead, they suspended hot dogs tied to strings from the ceiling and called the masterpiece “hot dog mistletoe.” Read more…

Man eats 74 hot dogs in 10 minutes, breaking his own world record

Reigning hot dog eating champion Joey Chestnut defended his title on Wednesday and set a new world record at Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest in Coney Island, New York. No one even came close.

Chestnut, described on ESPN as having the “the esophagus of a champion” and the “the stomach of a warlord” scoffed down 74 hot dogs and buns in just 10 minutes. This marks his 11th win in the last 12 years.

Following Chestnut, Carmen Cincotti shoved 63 hot dogs down his gullet, and Darron Breeden managed to devour 43 dogs.
