Tessa Thompson says she’s attracted to men and women. Happy pride!
It’s not officially Pride month until a well-loved celebrity comes out as some kind of queer.
In a new interview with Porter, actress Tessa Thompson says that she is attracted to both men and women. When asked about her alleged romantic relationship with Janelle Monáe, Thompson chose to be more circumspect.
“I can take things for granted because of my family – it’s so free and you can be anything that you want to be. I’m attracted to men and also to women,” Thompson told the publication.
Of her relationship with Monáe, Thompson then added: “If I bring a woman home, [or] a man, we don’t even have to have the discussion … That was something I was conscientious of in terms of this declaration around Janelle and myself. I want everyone else to have that freedom and support that I have from my loved ones. But so many people don’t. So, do I have a responsibility to talk about that? Do I have a responsibility to say in a public space that this is my person?” Read more…

Janelle Monáe has been coy about her sexuality throughout her career, but before releasing her latest album Dirty Computer later this week, she has some rumors to clear up.

“Being a queer black woman in America…someone who has been in relationships with both men and women – I consider myself to be a free-ass motherfucker,” she told RS writer Brittany Spanos. Read more…

Janelle Monae’s new ‘pussypants’ video is the stuff of queer feminist dreams
It’s been months since Janelle Monae released her subtly queer masterpiece, “Make Me Feel,” and I’m still just at the beginning stages of my recovery period.
Unfortunately — or maybe fortunately — there’s no time to heal. On Tuesday, the artist released her latest music video, “Pynk.” It’s thick with queer innuendo and feminist iconography. Evidence A: The giant “pussypants” she and her fellow dancers wears throughout. Evidence B: The guest appearance of Tessa Thompson, rumored to be Monae’s partner, who actually busts out of her enormous pink vagina pants.
