Senator Kamala Harris (D-CA), who has already announced her presidential campaign, has introduced a bill that would double down on one of the rare successful tech upgrade programs in the government today: the U.S. Digital Service. Ultimately she wants this quietly effective program to go from federal to state and local level, and command a much larger $65 million yearly budget.

Why more politicians should livestream their own State of the Union response
History will be made following President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address on Tuesday night.
Stacey Abrams will make history as the first black woman to deliver the official response to the State of the Union for either major party. The progressive Georgia Democrat, who also made history last year as the first ever gubernatorial nominee from a major party, is a great pick to deliver the response as a unifying voice among the party’s many wings and factions.

Senators Bernie Sanders and Kamala Harris have each announced that they will be delivering their own State of the Union responses via online platforms like Facebook and YouTube. Sanders, a rumored 2020 Democratic presidential candidate, has been criticized on social media for trying to “upstage” or “take the spotlight away from” Abrams. Harris, who has officially announced her 2020 presidential run, has also received criticism. Read more…

Yes, you read that headline right.
Dr. Christine Blasey Ford testified before the Senate on Thursday about Kavanaugh’s alleged sexual assault.
Later during the hearing, Senator Kamala Harris asked Kavanaugh, “Did you watch Dr. Ford’s testimony?”
“I did not,” Kavanaugh admitted. “I planned to, but I did not. I was preparing mine.”
Americans were both furious and unconvinced that Kavanaugh claimed he didn’t watch his accuser’s testimony.

Facial recognition technology presents myriad opportunities as well as risks, but it seems like the government tends to only consider the former when deploying it for law enforcement and clerical purposes. Senator Kamala Harris (D-CA) has written the FBI, FTC, and EEOC telling them they need to get with the program and face up to the very real biases and risks attending the controversial tech.
