Twitter’s search tool is blocking photo searches of #bisexual, but not #lesbian or #gay

Twitter has a lot of explaining to do. 

The social media platform is under scrutiny after several accounts noticed the search tool had begun to bar photos (as well as videos and news) tagged with the #bisexual hashtag — and others.

The hashtags #bisexual and #bisexuality are not the only ones to be filtered out by Twitter’s search tools. Included in the block are words like “butt,” “boobs,” and various sexual slurs, but as historian and CUNY professor Angus Johnston (@studentactivism on Twitter) pointed out in a series of tweets, there are inconsistencies with what has been blocked and what hasn’t.  Read more…

The Gay Games will take place in an Asian city for the first time

The rainbow flag is waving high in Hong Kong today.

The city will become the first Asian city in history to host the Gay Games in 2022.

It beat out Washington, D.C., and Mexico’s Guadalajara to host the 11th edition of the games.

This win is especially significant because Hong Kong does not recognise gay marriage, with the city only decriminalising homosexuality in 1991.

“We fought tirelessly and are elated to bring the games to Asia for the first time,” said bid chair Dennis Philipse.

“I am so proud of everyone on the HK bidding team, that’s a huge achievement. Without a doubt, I will be participating in my 8th gay games in my home town,” said social media user Kelvin Tang on Facebook. Read more…
