Hold on to your oat milk. It SNOWED in Los Angeles. 

Southern California — known for its year-long sunshine, mild temperatures, desert mountains, and gorgeous beaches — saw snow on Thursday afternoon, and everyone in the Los Angeles area justifiably freaked the fuck out. 

An “unusually chilly storm” from Alberta, Canada brought snow over Las Vegas on Thursday morning, according to the Los Angeles Times. By the afternoon, snow dusted more northern parts of L.A. and Ventura County, stopping traffic as Angelenos reveled in it. Read more…

$40,000 worth of rare, venomous insects were stolen in a tragic bug-lary

There are thousands and thousands of stolen bugs — including one of the world’s most venomous spiders and several cockroach colonies — still missing from the Philadelphia Insectarium and Butterfly Pavilion, in case you needed a reason to scream this weekend. 

The thieves got away with $40,000 worth of insects and lizards on Wednesday. The insectarium estimates that the thieves stole about 7,000 animals in total, a whopping 80 to 90 percent of the insectarium’s exhibits. 

Police and insectarium staff think the heist might have been an inside job. Security footage showed people walking around the museum holding plastic boxes full of some missing insects, including giant African mantises, bumblebee millipedes, warty glowspot roaches, tarantulars, dwarf and tiger hissers, and leopard geckos. When the crime was reported, the New York Times says, insectarium employees found two staff uniforms “stuck to the wall with knives.” Read more…

The internet is invested in the tale of Johny, Papa, and their sugary deceit. 

“Johny Johny Yes Papa” is probably one of the more terrible things to curse your timeline recently. The nightmarish nursery rhyme went viral over the past week, drawing hundreds of thousands of new people into its lore. 

In the most shared version, a child with an absurdly large head sneaks out of bed to gorge on sugar cubes when his father — known only as “Papa” — sternly calls out “Johny” and breaks into a Gangnam Style-type dance.
