Government website outages prevent comments on sexual assault Title IX rule changes

TwitterFacebook

The fight to reform sexual assault policies on campus is facing a maddeningly bureaucratic hurdle.

On the final day during which citizens could share comments with the Department of Education about its proposed changes to Title IX protections for sexual assault victims, the government website went down.

Starting at 10 am ET, comment submissions sections on regulations.gov and federalregister.gov were inoperable for “a few hours” Wednesday morning, and have been “finicky” since, according to organizers.

🚨Today’s the last day to submit comments on Betsy DeVos’ dangerous proposed Title IX changes, but the @UsEdGov site is 𝐝𝐨𝐰𝐧. This is unacceptable — @KLMarcusOCR, @BenjaminEW, @MHackman, this needs to be fixed IMMEDIATELY. #HandsOffIX pic.twitter.com/oVYmcXrn2W

Twitter is down worldwide

TwitterFacebook

From the U.S. to Europe and Asia, Twitter has left us.

“Something is technically wrong,” the website reads. The site claims it will have “things back to normal soon.” The Twitter app for iPhone will load, but if you try refreshing the feed, you’ll see the message, “Tweets aren’t loading right now.”

Xbox Live is down and players are *pissed*

TwitterFacebook

Xbox Live is down.

That harsh reality hit thousands of gamers Thursday afternoon as they desperately tried, and failed, to log into the gaming platform. And they are pissed.

Microsoft confirmed the problem in a tweet, as well as on the Xbox Live status page

“We are aware that some members may be having problems signing in to Xbox Live,” noted the service page. “We are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible, and we will be sure to provide you with frequent updates.”

Hey everyone! We’re aware that some of you are having trouble signing into Xbox Live – the right teams are hard at work to get everything working again. Thanks so much for all your patience!

Whoops, a major internet services company just went down

TwitterFacebook

A major player in keeping the internet running smoothly appeared to experience some problems of its own on Tuesday, with reports emerging that Cloudflare went down across parts of the U.S.

You may not be familiar with the name, but you have most certainly run across the work of the company that protects against distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks and prides itself on making “the Internet Work the Way It Should for Anything Online.”

“Anything,” apparently, failed to include Cloudflare itself on Tuesday — at least for a short period of time.

Slack is still down and it’s past 5 o’clock, so go home (Update: It’s back)

Slack has been down for just over an hour, according to its official status page — which itself was down when I first checked a few minutes after the widely-used productivity tool bit it for us. At this point the end of the workday is pretty much shot, so you can go home. I would but I work from home so I have to sit here. Read More
