Why we could be watching ‘The Simpsons’ for another 30 seasons

TwitterFacebook

When The Conners arrives on ABC for its first season sans Roseanne this September, another more enduring working-class American family will return to our screens for its 30th season. And none of its cast members will have aged a day since their first appearance — least of all the baby.

The Simpsons premiered in December 1989, some 14 months after the original Roseanne. Unlike that elder sitcom, it has continued uninterrupted ever since, for 639 episodes. The main cast has stayed the same throughout. The animation has gone digital; the orchestra is still a real live one for every show.

A ‘Simpsons’ writer showed hitherto unseen lines cut from ‘Steamed Hams’

TwitterFacebook

Simpsons writer Josh Weinstein gave us an insight into how the world’s most unforgettable luncheon was born.

Weinstein tweeted a picture of the second draft of the script for the episode 22 Short Films about Springfield.

What, you like Steamed Hams so much you wish there was more of it? Even if it was one line we added in the 2nd draft but then cut because it wasn’t as good as the original? Okay, in honor of 22 Short Films About Springfield’s 22nd anniversary I give you page 22 of the 2nd draft: pic.twitter.com/THRRhzfXjR

A word from ‘The Simpsons’ made it into the Merriam-Webster dictionary

TwitterFacebook

Are you familiar with the words that adorn the statue of Jebediah Springfield?

In the Simpsons episode “Lisa the Iconoclast,” the children of Springfield are shown a video telling the story of the town’s founder, Jebediah Springfield. In the propaganda film, Springfield speaks these immortal words.

“A noble spirit embiggens the smallest man.”

The children cheer, and teacher Edna Krabappel says:

To which fellow teacher Miss Hoover replies:

Cromulent or not, embiggen has been entered into the Merriam-Webster dictionary.

Oh hey

Cool news.

🎉🌟 We added 850 new words to the dictionary! 🎉🌟https://t.co/eyYWKHKzk7

This is how the ‘Simpsons’ house would fare on ‘House Hunters’

TwitterFacebook

If you want to know whether your house has any worth in this world, check with the most powerful influencers in the home design game, the House Hunters community.

For over 100 seasons now, House Hunters couples have offered their mostly bad judgement on everything, from the necessity of having a double sink in a bathroom (lame) to the privilege of having an electric stove (wrong). Now that The Simpsons is a Disney property, and the entire world feels like its up for sale, it’s worth wondering — how much is Homer and Marge’s house worth?

Let’s have House Hunters decide.
