Elon Musk has finished building the biggest battery in the world

TwitterFacebook

Elon Musk made a bet to build the world’s biggest battery in 100 days or he’d pay for it.

And he’s done.

Tesla has completed installing its colossal lithium ion battery in South Australia, a Powerpack system with 100 megawatts of capacity. But now comes the test.

Regulatory testing will begin in the next few days to ensure the battery is optimised and meets AEMO and South Australian Government requirements, before operation commences on Dec. 1.

The 5 biggest questions we still have about the Tesla Semi

TwitterFacebook

Tesla finally unveiled its heavy-duty, all-electric Semi truck, and we’re impressed.

The big rig is the sum of all of the automaker’s work in one massive package, featuring design cues from its other vehicles and even borrowing their parts, like the Model 3 motors that power each of its “super single” wheels. Musk claims the Semi will also offer truckers BAMF acceleration and performance specs, up to 500 miles of range per charge, and a cheaper cost to operate than standard diesel trucks.

The Semi certainly looks the part of the next big thing for the trucking industry — but there’s still so much about it that we don’t know. Elon Musk only showed off certain aspects of the truck during his presentation, leaving some very important features to be shared at a later date, when Tesla is ready to start churning out the rigs for clients.  Read more…

Walmart plans to test Tesla’s brand new electric semi-truck

TwitterFacebook

Walmart already wants to take Tesla’s new semi-truck for a spin.

The retail giant told CNBC on Friday that it’s “excited to be among the first” to test the new vehicle, which was announced for the first time on Thursday night.

“We believe we can learn how this technology performs within our supply chain, as well as how it could help us meet some of our long-term sustainability goals, such as lowering emissions,” a spokesperson for the company told the network.

Tesla’s ambitions in the trucking industry have been common knowledge for some time, but CEO Elon Musk finally unveiled details of the automaker’s big rig at an event on Thursday. The vehicle is able to run for 500 miles on a single charge, travel on autopilot within a fleet of other trucks, and accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in five seconds. Read more…

Tesla’s new ‘Megachargers’ will give its Semis power for 400 miles in 30 minutes

TwitterFacebook

Tesla’s new Semi trucks are slated to boast a range of up to 500 miles per charge — but powering up those batteries will still be important to the truckers who have to drive long routes.

The automaker will introduce an entirely new kind of charging station for its new big rigs: Megachargers. The units will be even more powerful than the Supercharger network Tesla already offers for its cars.

Like the Supercharger network, the Megachargers will be built around the world to support the fleet, as Musk claimed truckers will be able to “travel anywhere in the world via the Megachargers.” Read more…
