How will Ted Cruz celebrate his victory over Beto? Twitter has some hilariously deranged answers.

Hell hath no memes like those made by Beto O’Rourke fans after learning Ted Cruz was re-elected to his Senate seat in Texas.

On Tuesday night, as the results of the 2018 midterm elections were being tallied, Americans learned that Republican candidate Ted Cruz — the man who jokes about being the Zodiac Killer — had received more votes than his opponent — the burger-loving, skateboarding family man, Beto O’Rourke.

Naturally, many were displeased to hear the news. So while Cruz was busy giving his victory speech in front of loyal fans, others took it upon themselves to drag him.

This city is letting people try out self-driving cars for free

TwitterFacebook

If you’re visiting Arlington, Texas, and have been itching to try out an autonomous vehicle, you’re in luck.

Starting Friday, three Drive.ai self-driving cars (and eventually five) will be available to ride — for anyone, not just office workers, city officials, or a select group of “early riders.” Back in July, Drive.ai piloted the autonomous Nissan NV200 vans in Frisco, Texas. The Arlington deployment will be around for the next year.

“This is a not a quick demonstration,” CEO Bijit Halder said in a phone call this week.

If you’re interested, you can download the Drive.ai app or order a car from a kiosk at five pickup points. The cars are taking passengers along three routes that hit the Dallas Cowboys stadium, the Texas Rangers ballpark, the Arlington Convention Center, restaurant districts, and other venues.  Read more…

Fueling the future: The rise of wind tech careers

Ad Content from AT&T

Driving through the rural landscape of South Texas, wind turbines dot the topography like stoic guardians of the open expanses. Perhaps there is no more powerful metaphor for progress — and for the future — than these majestic structures.

Beto Gonzalez, the superintendent of Webb Consolidated Independent School District, calls the turbines “towers of hope.” Beginning this fall, Webb CISD will roll out a program — the first in the country at the high-school level — that teaches kids the hands-on skills they’ll need to become wind turbine technicians in the green economy.

It was a natural fit, explains Gonzalez, that just as AT&T was investing in a wind energy center in South Texas, the school district would hone in on efforts to prepare kids for jobs in the renewable energy sector. “We [wanted] to create a college-level curriculum for our high schoolers to give them hope for gainful employment in purposeful, technical careers,” says Gonzalez.
