Miss America 2019 says she’s happy she didn’t have to wear a swimsuit to win

Miss America 2019 has been crowned, and she’s thankful the bikinis have been ditched.

Representing New York, Nia Imani Franklin won the title in Atlantic City on Sunday night, in the first competition since the 98-year-old pageant scrapped the swimsuit segment, the Associated Press reports. 

After taking the crown and the $50,000 scholarship, Franklin, who is a classical vocalist, took the opportunity to tell reporters how glad she was that she didn’t have to don a bathing suit to win the competition. Read more…
