Flight on Southwest or American? Make sure it wasn’t on a Boeing 737 Max.

The FAA may have just messed up your travel plans.

On Wednesday, the agency announced that it’s grounding all Boeing 737 Max 8 and 9 airplanes after two fatal crashes in the last five months. The two airlines with the most Boeing 737 Max 8 planes? Southwest with 34 and American Airlines with 24.

The Ethiopian Airlines crash on Sunday prompted the groundings. Just a few months before in October, the same type of plane crashed in Indonesia.

As President Donald Trump made the announcement Wednesday, more than a dozen flights on the affected planes were mid-trip. They will be allowed to land at their final destinations, but once on the ground they have been ordered to stay there as part of the temporary grounding order.  Read more…

A fatal Ethiopian Airlines crash this weekend has prompted President Donald Trump to ground all U.S. airplanes of a similar model.

Boeing launched an investigation on Tuesday after an Ethiopian Airlines plane crashed shortly after takeoff on Sunday. The aircraft — a Boeing 737 Max 8 — was  the same model involved in the fatal Lion Air crash in Indonesia in October.

President Trump at a White House panel made the announcement about grounding both Boeing 737  Max 8 and 9 planes in the U.S.

Don’t buy a smart suitcase that doesn’t have a removable battery

TwitterFacebook

That “smart” suitcase might not be the best gift idea thanks to new checked baggage restrictions from several major airlines.

On Friday, American Airlines announced that starting Jan. 15, only smart suitcases with removable batteries will be allowed on planes. The same goes for Delta and Alaska Airlines

Anyone checking a smart bag will have to remove the battery. And if your smart suitcase doesn’t have a removable battery? Too bad — you’ll have to leave it behind and spend a small fortune at an overpriced airport shop for new luggage, or ship it

Smart suitcases have become more popular recently thanks to features like bag tracking, phone-charging ports, remote-controlled locks, and even weight scales to know if your bag is within airline limits. All the “smart” features are powered by a lithium ion battery. Read more…
