Apple is slowly squeezing even more out of customers

TwitterFacebook

It’s getting even more expensive to use Apple products.

At Tuesday’s Apple event in Brooklyn, the Cupertino-based tech giant unveiled the next generation of the iPad Pro, MacBook Air, and Mac Mini. Each updated device is more powerful than ever, with multiple add-on options that further enhance performance. Of course, those higher-end features come at a price. And Apple’s base pricing for the entry-level version of each of its products is rising, too.

Take the new iPad Pro. This generation of Apple’s flagship tablet is faster, thinner, and has more screen space than ever. The most affordable model, the new 11-inch iPad Pro, starts at $799. The 12.9-inch iPad Pro comes in at $999. Not bad for tablets that Apple puts up against competitors’ full-fledged laptops. But if you take a look at the base pricing of the previous generation of iPad Pros, you’ll find the cost for a 2017 10.5-inch iPad Pro and 12.9-inch iPad Pro when they were first released started at $649 and $799, respectively. That’s a $150 less for the 11-inch iPad Pro and $200 less for the 12.9-inch version. Read more…

Here’s where Apple hid your Camera Roll in iOS 12 Messages

TwitterFacebook

iOS users who enjoyed the ability to snap a photo in Messages are in for a big surprise.

There is no longer the ability to snap a shot and just send it to a friend — photos and videos taken in the Camera app are automatically added into your library.

Apple didn’t highlight this change on stage at WWDC alongside iOS 12. However, it arrived in Beta 1 and stuck through the final beta, and it seems it’s here to stay.

Essentially, tapping the camera icon on the top-left side of the keyboard now opens the viewfinder, and once you take a photo — or a few quick snaps — they’re all added to your library. Read more…

Apple says goodbye to the iPhone 6S, but I refuse to

TwitterFacebook

Every year when Apple holds its big iPhone event, there’s always one older-generation model that’s removed from Apple Stores.

This year is no exception. Apple has finally put the iPhone 6S out to pasture. Bye-bye, iPhone 6S!

But while Apple may not be selling it’s 3-year-old iPhone anymore, the existing iPhone 6S devices out in the wild still have a lot of life left in them. So really, the 6S isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

A recent study by analytics company Mixpanel confirmed this notion by suggesting that the iPhone 6S is currently the second most in-use iPhone model in the world. Second only to the iPhone 7, the iPhone 6S is more popular than the iPhone 8 and iPhone X with 13.01 percent of the iPhone market share, according to the study. Read more…

AppleCare+ finally covers lost and stolen iPhones—but it’s not cheap

TwitterFacebook

Apple announced three new iPhones at its event on Wednesday.

And with those expensive new iPhones — the iPhone XS Max tops out at $1,449 — you’ll surely want to protect those assets with a little insurance, no?

While not announced at the event, Apple also updated AppleCare+ — its warranty program for iPhones — to include a brand-new offering: AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss. Just in time for the release of the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR, Apple will cover the theft or loss of your iPhone.

The thing is, AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss isn’t cheap, and there are caveats.

Apple didn’t mention anything about AirPower, AirPods, or iPads

TwitterFacebook

While three new iPhones and a revamped Apple Watch took center stage at the Apple event Wednesday, several product announcements were conspicuously missing from the presentation.

Apple didn’t even quietly announce anything post-event about its wireless charging pad, dubbed AirPower, its wireless ear buds, AirPods, or its iPad tablet.

No one more thing, no wireless charged AirPods, no AirPower. Apple said both would happen in 2018.

At the Apple iPhone event in Cupertino, California improved battery life was mentioned for its trio of iPhones, the XS, XS Max, and XR, but nothing about wirelessly charging those devices.  Read more…

Which new iPhone is right for you?

TwitterFacebook

With three new iPhones launching this year, choosing the right one might be harder than ever.

The iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR may look similar at first glance, but when you dig deeper you’ll find that the subtle differences actually add up to distinct experiences from each one.

The first thing most people care about is size. How big is the screen, and will the phone fit in your pocket?

This year, you’ll find that the new iPhones are actually quite large, with the biggest being the iPhone XS Max. It’s the largest iPhone ever made, so if you’re the type of person that loves typing and scrolling on a gigantic screen — this is probably the one for you. Read more…

Here’s how iPhone XS Max stacks up against the competition

TwitterFacebook

The iPhone XS Max is the biggest iPhone ever.

It has a 6.5-inch Super Retina OLED with a 2688 X 1242 resolution. Yes, that means it’s even bigger than the iPhone 8 Plus. It comes in a stunning new gold color, in addition to silver and space gray. Plus, it has the first 7-nanometer processor, the A12 Bionic chip inside.

The main camera is getting an upgrade with a 12-megapixel wide-angle and 12-megapixel telephoto on the back.

The iPhone XS Max won’t come cheap, though. It starts at $1099 and will be available in 64 GB, 256 GB, and 512 GB.  Read more…

How iPhone XS compares to Pixel 2, Galaxy S9, and Huawei P20 Pro

TwitterFacebook

The new iPhone XS is packed with the latest and greatest, plus it comes in a new gold color.

The XS features 5.8-inch Super Retina OLED display with a resolution of 2436 X 1125. It keeps the familiar screen size of 2017’s iPhone X, but has more pixels and sharper resolution to make the screen look even clearer.

Inside the iPhone XS is the new A12 Bionic Chip, which is the world’s first 7-nanometer chip — an impressive feat. Expect this phone to be speedy, and iOS 12 to run as smooth as butter.

The iPhone XS will cost you $999 for the 64 GB, $1,149 for the 256 GB, and $1,349 for the 512 GB.

Here’s how the iPhone XS stacks up against stiff competition like the Pixel 2, Galaxy S9, and Huawei P20 Pro. Read more…
