Gmail for iOS finally gets customizable swipe actions

TwitterFacebook

Google is making yet another prominent change to Gmail — one that will make it easier to get work done in a hurry.

The search giant announced on Thursday that its Gmail for iOS app will be updated to add several new customizable swipe actions: archive, trash, mark as read, mark as unread, snooze, and move to [a different folder].

The feature is basically an extension of what’s been available for Android since June 2018. Swipe actions, of course, have been available on iOS for a long time, but haven’t been customizable until today. Google says the feature will rollout to all iOS users over the next 15 days — so don’t stress if you don’t see the new feature right away. Read more…

Telegram now lets people delete every message sent or received

TwitterFacebook

Telegram just added a feature that makes it easier for users to delete any message they’ve ever sent — or any message they’ve ever received.

The service announced this weekend that users can now delete messages from both individual conversations and group chats; however, unlike other services, deleting a message will delete it from the record for every user in the chat, not just the person who deletes it.

This is in stark contrast to something like Twitter direct messaging, where users can remove messages they personally don’t want to see, but the message will remain for everyone else in the chat. Even the WhatsApp and Facebook unsend features are limited to messages sent by the user who wants to delete them.  Read more…

Foursquare introduces experimental ‘Hypertrending’ feature for SXSW

TwitterFacebook

Ten years later, Foursquare is still making a case for location-sharing tech.

The company known for popularizing the digital check-in at SXSW a decade ago now is showing off a new, experimental feature that takes advantage of all of the company’s location data. It’s called Hypertrending, and it’s launching now in Foursquare’s apps for SXSW attendees in Austin (you have to shake your phone to access the feature).

Hypertrending is essentially a real-time heat map that lets you see where people are at any given moment. It’s all anonymized, so you can’t see the location of any one individual, but the idea is to give users a window into where the masses are — something that could be useful for the thousands of people who descend on Austin for SXSW. TwitterFacebook

March Mindfulness is our new series that examines the explosive growth in mindfulness and meditation technology — culminating in Mashable’s groundbreaking meditation bracket contest. Because March shouldn’t be all madness.

Around 10 minutes before noon — the busiest part of my day — I get a notification from the same app telling me it’s time to meditate. I dismiss it, only to see another annoying reminder 5 minutes later. Finally, at noon, I usually give in and start the meditation — because it’s the only chance I’ll have to do so.

That’s because the app in question, Tap In, is entirely dedicated to one live 10-minute guided meditation every weekday. You’re either in or you’re out. Think HQ Trivia, but for midday chill-out sessions.  Read more…

The colossal failure that was the Fyre Festival is a cautionary tale about what NOT to do when planning, well, anything.

Just because it sounds good in your head and looks good on Instagram, doesn’t mean that it’s guaranteed to go as planned. Two documentaries and a spate of defeated tweets later, we can all be pretty sure of that.
