Yoga is good for your mind, body, and spirit. It reduces stress and anxiety, builds strength and endurance, and increases mindfulness. While all of this sounds great, it can sometimes be difficult to bring yourself to get up and go to the yoga studio.

With the right tools and programs, though, you won’t ever have to leave your house to reap the benefits of yoga. Though all you truly need to do the practice is your body, in order to make your home feel like you’re in a professional studio setting, you’ll want to have a few essentials.

First and foremost, you’ll want a matYoga mats act as a grip so you’re not sliding around during your workout and they provide a cushion for the positions that require you to put pressure on different areas of your body. Sam Neill doing yoga with his pig is the only thing worth seeing on the internet

TwitterFacebook

We’ve heard of cat yoga, kilt yoga, and even naked yoga. But, there’s one thing we haven’t seen before and that’s a pig doing yoga. Well, until now, that is.

Sam Neill, of Jurassic Park fame, tweeted two photos of himself and “The Pig” doing their “stretching routine together.”

On the right, Neill is showing the pig how to do “Upward Facing Dog.”

So The Pig and I do our stretching routine together these mornings; we take turns while the other coaches. Here we demonstrate the “Upward Facing Dog”. Or “The Cobra” to the Pig. [ he’s more Yoga than Pilates.] ‘Just 3 more Sam !”Yes coach.’ Ommpic.twitter.com/dM3CvMNdcS

Man gets naked in Planet Fitness, uses its ‘judgment-free’ slogan as a defense

TwitterFacebook

As a Planet Fitness member, you grow accustomed to the strange and unusual. Pizza night? Sure. Or, as I once actually witnessed, a fellow gym member working out in a business suit? Why not?

Though it’s hard to shock fellow members of this particular gym chain, a man named Eric Stagno did just that when he decided to do some naked exercising at the Plaistow, New Hampshire Planet Fitness on Sunday, according to the Boston Globe. Stagno was arrested shortly thereafter.

Captain Brett Morgan told the Globe that when officers arrived, the 34-year-old was “completely nude: on his knees in a yoga-type position” in the middle of the busy gym. Read more…

A yogi was so moved after watching ‘Black Panther’ he created Wakanda yoga

TwitterFacebook

When Artis Smith, a Virginia-based yoga instructor, went to see Black Panther at the cinema, he came away feeling something he hadn’t felt before at the end of a movie—pride.

That feeling didn’t go away, so he decided to combine his fandom for Black Panther with his work as a yoga instructor. He created Wakanda yoga.

Smith, who identifies as mixed race, says he has always struggled with his identity for much of his life because of the way people of colour are represented by the media. “Because of the way the media portrayed black people and Africa made me ashamed to be black,” says Smith.

There’s just something about Adriene: How Yoga with Adriene dominates YouTube

TwitterFacebook

Adriene Mishler exudes plenty of mushy-gushy spiritual thinking, but the yoga evangelist embraces something else, too: self-deprecating humor.

That’s part of what has made her so accessible to her 3.2 million YouTube subscribers. When she mentions self-love or chakras, she bookends it with “Okayyyy, Adriene,” or when she directs you to sit in a cross-armed-cross-legged pretzel of a pose as you lift your head, she mumbles, “This is like Ariel on the rock, speaking to my generation, a little mermaid joke.”

It’s why her fans call her goofy and authentic, an overused cliche in the YouTube world, but they really mean it. They insist! There’s just something about Adriene.  Read more…

Forget yoga pants. Criticising other women’s sartorial choices is bad for women.

TwitterFacebook

You might have spotted that the New York Times has waged war on women’s workout gear. Yoga pants, to be precise. An op-ed published on the NYT Opinion page on Sunday added yoga pants to the ever-burgeoning catalogue of Things That Are Bad For Women™.

Its author, Honor Jones—a woman—claimed that women only wear this previously uncontroversial garment because “they’re sexy,” and proffered sweatpants as an unobtrusive alternative deserving of a revival. Sexiness isn’t the only problem with yoga pants, by Jones’s estimation. They also, happen to “show every dimple and roll in every woman over 30″—which seemingly makes it harder to “conquer the world” in Jones’ vision of gender politics.  Read more…
