Town erects plastic covering over Banksy’s latest mural

TwitterFacebook

File this one under deeply ironic — yet sadly necessary.

On Wednesday, the elusive street artist Banksy claimed responsibility on Instagram for a new mural that appeared on the wall of a garage in the south Wales town of Port Talbot.

Then, days after the work appeared, the town erected a transparent plastic sheet wall to protect the latest work from the artist who made a name for himself by vandalizing public property.

The irony is difficult to ignore, but the town’s actions are wholly understandable.

This Banksy-themed costume just hands down won Halloween

TwitterFacebook

Nowadays, the top prize for a Halloween costume competition doesn’t necessarily go to the scariest creation. It often goes to the most inventive.

Or, in this case, the most inventively topical.

“My friend needed a list minute Halloween costume,” wrote Reddit user u/MrRicardo in Reddit’s r/pics sub. “I think I delivered!”

We think it’s fair to say they did indeed deliver:

65,000 upvotes on that creation and counting.

Banksy would surely be proud.

Actually, Banksy meant to shred the whole painting. Now it’s likely worth much more.

In a ‘Director’s half cut’ uploaded on YouTube, Banksy revealed the secret shredding mechanism he had installed inside the frame of a copy of  “Girl With Balloon.”

It was supposed to shred the whole canvas, but seems to have gotten stuck. So what happened at the auction was the coincidental creation of a new work of art. Read more…

Banksy artwork shreds itself right after selling at auction for $1.4 million

Which is more artful: The painted work, preserved forever on canvas; or the carefully orchestrated act of destroying said canvas?

Banksy implicitly asked that very question on Friday. An auction of the artist’s popular work, “Girl With Balloon,” ended with the shocking display of the the piece shredding itself immediately after the winning bid of 1.04 million pounds was cast.

It wasn’t an accident. The ornate frame containing “Girl With Balloon” apparently concealed a shredder. Once the auction ended — with a purchase price that was three times higher than expected — an alarm sounded and the secret shredder switched on. Read more…

Banksy is back with 9 new fiery murals in Paris

TwitterFacebook

A load of new Banksy murals have popped up in Paris, France, in the past week.

The works — which are Banksy’s first in the French capital — have been interpreted as “taking aim at Europe’s migrant crisis and capitalism.”

Banksy confirmed on his Instagram that he’s the artist behind the new works.

One of the murals — of a veiled figure who appears to be mourning — was discovered on a street behind Le Bataclan concert hall, where a terrorist attack killed 89 people on Nov. 13 2015.

A new artwork attributed to street artist Banksy was discovered on a side street to the Bataclan concert hall.
