Since the 2016 election, malicious bot and troll accounts have hounded users across Twitter with fake news and abusive comments. In an effort to combat this issue, the company announced that new users will be required to confirm either an email address or phone number. BotChain wants to put bot-to-bot communication on the blockchain

Increasingly we are going to be having bots conducting business on a company’s behalf. As that happens, it is going to require a trust mechanism to ensure that bot-to-bot communication is legitimate. BotChain, a new startup out of Boston wants to be the blockchain for registering bots. The new blockchain, which is built on Ethereum, […]

TwitterFacebook

Ocado, the world’s largest online-only grocery retailer, relies on robots to deliver fresh food to hundreds of thousands of people in the UK. Its warehouses are designed like living organisms – there’s a central nervous system (software), a cardiovascular system (conveyor belts) and red blood cells (crates).

Facebook is really proud of its 300,000 business bots, despite claiming it will put ’people first’

TwitterFacebook

Mark Zuckerberg has made it clear that fake profiles and soviet robots have no place on Facebook.

But worry not, robots. ‘Messenger’ is still a hospitable home for bots like you.

At F8, Facebook’s Vice President of Messaging Products, David Marcus, jovially reported that Messenger’s integration with business is going swimmingly. According to Marcus, over 8 billion messages have been sent between people and businesses. And there are 300,000 monthly active bots engaging with customers on messenger.

Bots on Twitter share two-thirds of links to popular websites: Pew

It’s official: Bots are doing a lot of PR grunt work on Twitter — especially when it comes to promoting porn websites. That perhaps unsurprising conclusion about what automated Twitter accounts are link sharing comes courtesy of a new study by the Pew Research Center which set out to quantify one aspect of bot-based activity in […]

Suspicious likes lead to researcher lighting up a 22,000-strong botnet on Twitter

Botnets are fascinating to me. Who creates them? What are they for? And why doesn’t someone delete them? The answers are probably less interesting than I hope, but in the meantime I like to cheer when large populations of bots are exposed. That’s what security outfit F-Secure’s Andy Patel did this week after having his curiosity piqued by a handful of strange likes on Twitter.

Customer service bot startup Agent IQ announces $6.3 million Series A led by Sierra Ventures

If you’ve tried to deal with a bot before you can speak to a human customer service rep, you know how frustrating that process can sometimes be. Agent IQ, a startup that has developed customer service bots, acknowledges… Read More
