Should you believe in ‘The Cher Show’ on Broadway?

TwitterFacebook

She’s a one-name icon, so it feels right that it would take three people to bring her to life eight times a week.

The Cher Show, which just opened on Broadway, gives Cher the musical treatment — which in theory should be a perfect marriage for the campy, vampy icon.

The show is a pretty standard biopic/jukebox musical, tracing the life, loves, and dresses of Cherilyn Sarkisian. And while it doesn’t hit the highs of all-timers like Jersey Boys or Beautiful — stories that have larger themes than just “here are the songs of the artist you love,” fans of the singer should have a good time reminding themselves throughout this highlights reel why she is the ultimate survivor.  Read more…

Cher’s mom is really proud of her daughter’s ‘Mamma Mia’ cameo

TwitterFacebook

We all get a little embarrassed by our parents from time to time. That’s a feeling that even 72-year-old megastar Cher can relate to.

Cher tweeted out a message of thinly veiled exasperation at her 92-year-old mother for being a little too excited about her daughter’s part in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.

You can practically hear the sarcasm in this tweet.

My Mom Is Telling Complete Strangers They Should See
“MAMMA MIA”,BECAUSE…HER DAUGHTER (👑CHER🌟) IS STARRING💫IN IT‼️🙄

This photo of Cher and Amanda Seyfried has got fans begging for a live-action ‘Tangled’

TwitterFacebook

It’s not often that you look at a photo and get an idea for the next live-action remake.

This is precisely what happened when a fan looked at a photo of Cher and Amanda Seyfried together at the London premiere of Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again, though.

Twitter user @ceredemonials posted the aforementioned photo alongside a pic of Mother Gothel and Rapunzel from Disney’s Tangled. The resemblance is uncanny.

WTF indeed.

One person was so struck by the resemblance, they called for a Tangled Broadway musical starring Cher as Mother Gothel, and Amanda Seyfried as Rapunzel. Read more…

Meryl Streep and Cher’s kiss is one of the few good things to happen in forever

TwitterFacebook

It was the kiss heard round the world — or on gay tumblr.

Listen, the news cycle is bleak and things have been dark for the the LGBTQ community for a long, long time. So forgive the community if we got a little too excited this week when queer icons Cher and Meryl Streep exchanged a smooch at the Mamma Mia premiere.

It was everyone’s awkward celebrity fantasy come true.

I know, I know, Cher and Meryl aren’t technically a “thing.” But that doesn’t mean I can’t go to a beautiful, imaginary place in my head where these two have a romantic queer future. Cher and Meryl are made to buy a brownstone in the West Village together, wear matching pussyhats to anti-Trump protests, and adopt a dolphin named after their favorite intersectional feminist hero. Cher loves Paddington Bear, and I love both of them, so it all works out

TwitterFacebook

This is One Good Thing, a weekly column where we tell you about the only nice thing that happened on the internet this week.

In these dark days, no one seems to like much of anything. I certainly don’t — the things that used to bring me joy, like naps and minor political victories, now fill me with existential dread.

There are, however, two exceptions:

  1. The movies Paddington and Paddington 2, which star an anthropomorphized bear and are the most wholesome fun cinema has to offer.

  2. Cher’s tweets.

For context, here is one of Cher’s tweets.

Whats going on with mycareer
