Going to music gigs alone is the best way to do it. Fight me.

I could be anywhere in the world, but the moment I hear a song from Neko Case’s “Fox Confessor Brings The Flood,” I’m transported back to my friend’s single bed in northern France. The year is 2009, my Erasmus year, and I’m a teaching assistant in a suburban secondary school.

There, I would spend my evenings drinking €3 red wine and listening to the iTunes library of a new American friend (and now, best friend) named Shannon who also happened to be teaching English in the same sleepy French town. It was there, during this year of instructing teenagers how to conjugate, that I realised how intensely personal our relationship with music can be. That’s why, nine years on, I decided I would go to see Neko Case on my own during her European tour.  Read more…

‘Game of Thrones’ composer on his epic concert tour and how he writes all those bangers

TwitterFacebook

Ramin Djawadi doesn’t have any Game of Thrones theories.

The Emmy-winning composer of Thrones, Westworld, Jack Ryan and more is in the midst of another national – actually, international – concert tour, but when it comes to prepping for Season 8, theorizing is one thing he won’t do.

“I’m the worst person to ask!” he tells Mashable in a phone interview. “People ask me ‘What’s your favorite scene?’ or like my favorite to write, and it’s so hard because I feel like as the composer for the show I need to treat all the characters and all the themes as equally as possible. You know, it’s like you love all the kids the same – and so same with me trying to predict the ending or saying I would love to see this character on the throne. I literally just freeze and go ‘I don’t know.'” Read more…

Like to dance in the aisles at concerts? Don’t do it in this city.

TwitterFacebook

Heading to a concert, the last thing you’d expect to be kicked out for is dancing.

But that’s reportedly what happened to a fan at a Stevie Nicks concert in Melbourne — she was thrown out by security for “dancing,” according to The Sydney Morning Herald.

Nicks concertgoer Jo-Ann George told the newspaper that she was removed from her $204 floor seat in Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena on Nov. 16, after she was asked by security to stop dancing mid-show.

If you’ve ever tried to listen to “Edge of Seventeen” sitting in your designated seat, it’s a goddamn fool’s errand.  Read more…

Drake threatens dude who was inappropriately touching women at a concert

TwitterFacebook

Let it be known: the Six god is not here for your disrespect of women anywhere and anytime.

While in Sydney performing at a nightclub this week, Drake spotted a fan apparently groping women in the audience and put a stop to it immediately.

In the middle of an energetic performance of “Know Yourself,” Drake stopped the Australian crowd from continuing the hook of the song and called out a specific person in the audience.

“If you don’t stop touching girls, I will come out there and fuck you up,” Drake emphatically declared at the fan, his finger pointing.  Read more…

Kanye West finally makes his return to the stage at a Kid Cudi concert

TwitterFacebook

In November 2016, Kanye West cancelled a slew of tour dates after reports surfaced that he’d been hospitalized.

On Saturday night, nearly a year after those headlines dominated the news, the Chicago native took the stage alongside longtime collaborator Kid Cudi for the first time since 2016—and people went absolutely wild.

West and Cudi performed “Father Stretch My Hands  Pt. 1” to the surprised crowd that had come to see Cudi’s Passion, Pain, & Demon Slayin’ tour.
