Patreon changes ‘archaic’ reporting tool, adds more human moderators

TwitterFacebook

Patreon, the crowdfunding site popular with vloggers, podcasters, and other content creators, is updating its Trust and Safety department with better tools and more human moderators,  making it easier to report inappropriate content.

The decision comes as the 4-year-old startup becomes an even more of an attractive source of revenue for content creators, especially in the wake of YouTube’s rule changes for monetization.

With the update, there are no changes to Patreon’s terms of service or community guidelines. Rather, it’s fixing Patreon’s “archaic” content reporting tool, Patreon’s head of legal Colin Sullivan told Mashable.  Read more…

Patreon might destroy itself while trying to figure out how to pay artists online

TwitterFacebook

Internet strangers and supporters pay $1,080 a month to Stuart Schuffman, better known as his online persona Broke-Ass Stuart, to write things like “8 Ways to Get High for Hannukah.”

Think Kickstarter but with a focus on the people behind the projects and tailored to providing a sustained monthly income rather than a one-off influx of cash.

The once-niche artist-focused platform was thrust into the spotlight recently when it raised $60 million in venture capital and changed its fee structure. Then all hell broke loose.  Read more…

The 5-year bootstrapped odyssey of Sno-Go, a snow bike for the everyday ski mountain visitor

Skiing has always been something of a nightmare for me. I first “learned” how to ski in middle school, and still to this day don’t really understand how to stop. I once went to a “black diamond” mountain in Minnesota (read: gently sloping Midwest hill) and had to slam myself into the ground before skiing straight into the ski chalet. I’m hardly alone in my… Read More
